Considering applying to RHIT...few questions!

I know you guys are probably getting REALLY tired of me, but…

I recently took the ACT and I just got the results back from it (but no writing results). It’s quite a bit better (except for science) than my last session, which I got a 32 Eng, 26 Math, 35 Sci, 28 Read. This session, I got a 32 Eng, 33 Math, 33 Read, and a 25 (EEK) science.

Now, my question is…should I wait to send scores until I can send the most recent scores or should I just send the previous session scores and hope for the best? Do you think the improved scores are enough to make a difference in the admission decision? The reason that I’m asking is that it’s going to be another 2-3 weeks for the writing scores to be complete and that I can send the scores out. Are there any disadvantages to waiting to submit the application or the scores?

Thanks again.

The disadvantage to waiting to send in your application is that Rose does rolling admissions, so getting your application in early will help. Your new scores will definitely help, especially the math score. I think Rose will reevaluate your application if you send in new scores after you submit the application, and I also think they will take the best scores for each test, for instance your first science score and second math score. I’m not positive about that, so maybe someone else can confirm.

As Nick123 said, send in your ACT right away and if they are better later you can send them in.

So send the scores that I can and when I can submit the latest scores (still waiting on writing), submit those too? Also, how much bearing do the test scores have on merit-based aid?

I don’t know exactly how much the test scores affect your merit-based aid, but even if you get in with your first set of scores you should still send the new ones for financial aid consideration.

Nick, you might want to consider callling the Admisisons Office on this one.

Better to get their input than just rely on the rest of us who are just guessing.

I contacted the admissions office before about the ACT scores. What they told me is that they only look at your Math and English scores and take the highest of those.

I hope that helps. So yes, send in your application as soon as possible with the new scores.

My application is almost complete, but I’ve ran into a bit of a snag. My father died several years ago, but I don’t know how to declare that on the application and I was hoping someone here would have any ideas. I’ve already sent an email to the admissions office, but they won’t be available until the 4th. I just want to get it submitted! :(

well, nick. Why do you want the admissions office to know about the fact that your dad has deceased? When I applied, they didn’t ask anything about my parents I think.

Any way, such extra information can always go to the optional section of your application. I used that optional section to write an essay on my interest in engineering, but you can use it otherwise.

If your father’s death helped explain, say, a grade slump, then put it in the optional section. Otherwise, I’d leave it off.

Okay. I was just thinking they might wonder why I couldn’t put an address down or something. I left it off and submitted the application! Thanks everyone!

what is the acceptance rate of rose hulman?

The acceptance rate is about 70%. But keep in mind that typically the people applying have very good stats (since the people who actually know about the school are the ones with pretty good stats). Hence why the actual average of the ACT and such for the Freshman class is much higher than their average for “acceptance”.

The school seems like a pretty good choice for undergrad education. Did any of you send in any subject test scores?

I didn’t send my subject test scores, as they were quite awful and I wish to banish their existence…

What would be a good subject test score for Rose Hulman? I have a 760 on mathiic and a 710 on physics. Do you think that sending in the both would positively affect my decision?or should I banish their existence, too ?

Those scores can’t hurt. I would send them.

I personally don’t think it could hurt you. I am an ACT guy, so I only had to worry about the one ACT score. Rose likes to see all of these things, so just send them if you really want to.

Thanks everyone! I’ll send them and hope they’ll find competitive : )

I would really like to know how well rose is known in the engineering industry. From a lot of comments…it is seen that in the state of Indiana, it has a good name. But really, what about other parts of US…or even Canada for that matter. What reputation does rose-hulman actually have among engineering firms in us?
