I've visited, and I love what I see

So I just visited Rose-Hulman and it is the best school I have seen. I would absolutely love to go here. What advice do any current students or whoever can give input have for me in pursuing this school? I know as a fact that this is my #1 pick. People have tried in other forums to say that "Oh, well RHIT is good, but it doesn't have as much research and...". Well, I came to the conclusion that it is my personal preference for the school that is above all of that. RHIT seems to be a fantastic school for engineering and I don't think I could go wrong by going there. So any advice? Either about what to start doing now to afford the school or anything? Any student input on why they like the school and what makes it what it is?

Thank you so much for anyone who responds! Rose-Hulman seems to be #1 for me at least.

I’m glad to hear you visited and enjoyed it! You’re already a step ahead of me when I was looking at colleges since you are asking questions and getting information on here. A couple things I’d recommend, first take as many AP tests as you can. These will give you transfer credit that will open up space in your schedule to get a minor or take more electives, or just have an easier quarter. You should also apply for scholarships. Websites like Fastweb are a great resource, but local companies and service organizations often have scholarships that are less publicized. When tax season comes around, make sure you submit your FAFSA so Rose can consider you for financial aid. Other than that, I don’t think there’s too much you need to do until the spring. Good luck!

Thank You! I think I’m doing well in all of those things so far. I’m taking a lot of AP exams and have been applying for FastWeb, Collegeboard, etc. Scholarships. Also, I’m hoping to get the FAFSA done right when it comes out. I’m just really hoping Rose will work out.

Oh, I have question too. I sort of want to know if there is a point to me taking the AP Latin exam. I know it gets some foreign language credit, but is it really useful? I just want to know, because I won’t take it if there is no reason to and put my efforts into my other AP exams. Also, why do the buildings at Rose seem new? Isn’t it an older school? I’m not complaining at all, but they all seem really well kept up. I was very impressed by that and White Chapel. I saw pictures of White Chapel and seeing it in person was awesome. Also, you guys have a lot of turtles in your pond. I saw about 4 or so just when walking to White Chapel. There was even this really little one. Anyway, sorry but I’m digressing. I was just really really impressed by the school. Especially after having seen schools like UIUC and IIT.

Sorry that this was so long.
Wait, one more question. How do students treat each other there? Is there a sense of respect among students? Also, is there much competition there among students or is it mostly a team effort?

Thank you if you decide to answer this long post!

If you’d like Salve, I can get you the email address of a current RH student who’s a junior this year. He’s attending all the way from Florida, and he truly loves the school. My H went there, but all of his anecdotal info would be from years ago (and years and years, LOL), but my S’s friend, as I say, is a current student. He’s not on this forum, or i’d just have him reply. So, let me know if you’d like to contact him.

zebes

Zebes, that would be great if you wouldn’t mind!
I love the campus and would like to know as much as I can about it.
Thank you so much!

As far as the buildings being new, more than half of the building on campus have been built in the last 15 years. It is an old school, but they have grown quite a bit in the last couple decades.

One of the main reasons I chose Rose was the small campus atmosphere and the sense of community. It is a very noncompetitive atmosphere and you feel like you can talk to anyone or ask for help with homework anytime. Since Rose is all math, science, and engineering, it’s easy to find people that are taking the same classes, and I work with other students that live in my building for pretty much every class I take.

Thank you Nick123, that is exactly what I was hoping to hear!

salve!

zebes

Thanks zebes, I really appreciate it!

Very friendly school and the prof and adm are very nice too! It is an easy school to LOVE!

Haha, that is so very true cheezwhiz.

It certainly is an easy school to love. I’m in Terre Haute right now; I spent the day at Rose, and will be there again tomorrow. As always, everyone was ridiculously friendly and excited about what was going on.

Despite the terrible weather, I kept falling in love with Rose. The professors I talked to from the ABBE department were wonderful, and the class I observed seemed engaging. I keep holding out hope for good financial aid.

And I wonder–why do people say the food at Rose is only so-so? I ate at the ARA tonight and it was delicious.

Haha, thanks for the information about your visit phanatic! Rose seems like my hopeful home.

Mine too, Salve. It all depends on financial aid, though… but here’s to hoping that I’ll be an honorary Hautian next year at this time.

Haha, same!

I have officially been accepted to Rose-Hulman as of today!

Congrats! it’s a great place.
My oldest S is a junior at Rose, so if you have any questions, IM me.

Yay, Salve!

I have a D at Rose…so if you need any information PM me. Congrads it is a great school with wonderful staff and students.

This school is amazing.

Sorry, I haven’t been on here in awhile. Thanks everyone! cheezwiz, just a warning, I might be taking you up on that offer of information, Thanks!
