Hey, I'm going to start homeschooling this year and I'm considering on self studying 3 APs (Lang, Psych, and APUSH) this year. The AP English Language and Composition teacher over at PA Homeschoolers said that I have to go through an AP Audit process in order to designate these courses on my high school transcript. Has anyone ever done this before? I'm lost and confused. HELP! Thanks.

You only have to go through the course audit process if you want to list the course as “AP Psychology” on your transcript. You can list the course as “Psychology” or even “Honors Psychology” without a problem.

Then you can also list the exam score once you have it. We list exam scores right on the transcript (in a separate box just for test scores).

I never did the course audits for my daughters so we didn’t list the courses as “AP This or That” on the actual course list part of the transcript. However, the universities look at the actual exam scores when they dole out college credits so it is all good.

Did I answer your question?

As long as you take the exams and do well, it doesn’t really matter what you call the courses. When we wrote son’s transcript, we placed the AP score in parenthesis beside the course description. We also called it AP whatever (ie AP US History), which was technically incorrect as we had not done the audit process.

The AP Course Audit is a really big pain, but it isn’t terribly difficult. My senior year I self-studied 5 APs, and I did the course audit for them myself, under my mom’s name (My Harvard interviewer was impressed ). You can always just call them honors courses, or when we did my intitial transcript, my courses hadn’t yet been approved, so we called them AP and just put a note at the bottom that they were being audited. And I’m not entirely sure how closely they audit them anyway - I submitted the Calc AB audit at 10 PM one night, and I got the approval email at 3 AM the next morning. Maybe they have minions who work the night shift. Hope this helps!
