Considering transferring at the end of sophomore year

So as the title suggests, I'm thinking of transferring at the end of next year. I currently attend NJIT and am displeased with the social life predominantly, but I also believe there are nicer campuses out there and better curricula available. I'm studying computer science/IT at the moment, and did some research on which schools offer the best education in these subjects.

One of my questions is, "What does it realistically take to be able to transfer into a school such as Cornell or Carnegie Mellon?" Both schools seemed to have a decent acceptance rate and are top-class in terms of my field. My other question is regarding the University of Illinois. I did a little research and it seemed that the admission rate was quite high, the tuition fee was pretty low, but yet on a list of the top computer science schools, it was ranked at number three. This just confuses me due to it seeming as though acceptance would be easy there.

Thanks for any advice/answers in advance.

General acceptance might be fairly easy, but acceptance into the computer science program may be difficult.

Entrance into top schools is usually based on a high gpa, test scores, good recommendations (if they’re required), extracurriculars, and essays. If you look at the decisions thread under the transfer forum, you’ll get a better idea of what it requires.
