I'm a current high school senior intending to major in Computer Science. Come May 1, I will likely be making my deposit at Case Western Reserve University. Assuming I don't get off of any wait lists (which I hope will not be the case but is obviously very possible), I'm somewhat confident that I'll be looking to transfer after a year or two. I'm not trying to knock Case, but when I attended the admitted students weekend, I really didn't find myself enthusiastic about the environment at the school. I don't feel that I would fit in particularly well or be very happy there.

All that said, what are some of the top schools for Computer Science which aren't near-impossible to transfer into? I had a 3.78 UW GPA in HS, and I hope to earn a higher one at Case (my work ethic has improved significantly since my freshman and sophomore years). I also have a 2340 on my SAT along with two perfect subject tests. So I'm probably qualified to transfer into some great schools. That said, I'm not delusional enough to think I'm so outstanding that I could transfer into MIT or anything. But I feel like I would have a shot at, say, Berkeley. Are there many schools of similar caliber that accept a significant number of transfer applicants?

I'd appreciate any help, since I know next to nothing about transfers. Thanks, everyone!

To find the transfer rate for any school, go to the CB Big Future website or google the Common Data Set for a school.

Be aware that the admission rate from some schools will be less than shown due to articulation agreements with certain CCs (eg. many publics, Cornell, USC, etc.). And of course some schools don’t take soph transfers (eg. UCs).

Oh, I know that I could probably figure this out on my own. I guess I just thought that asking here would be a bit easier. Also, I know that acceptance rates can occasionally be misleading (due to guaranteed transfers, self-selectivity, ect.), so I was hoping that some folks on this board might be able to provide some insight.

Yeah, Carnegie accepts virtually no transfers into their School of Computer Science. I’m on their SCS waitlist at the moment. Same with Michigan, actually, although I could probably get in there as a transfer (which would be great, since I realized after I applied how much I liked the school).
