[</em>]Advice? Commiserations? Feel like bragging?: Of course I am very sad that I did not make it to my number one school. I gave MIT everything I got. I spilled my heart on the essays, I wrote a supplementary essay, asked two mentors to write additional recs… Everything that I could. I wanted to know that if I were to be deferred, it would be only be after I gave my 100%. I tried very hard in high school to become who I am today. I grabbed as many academic activities and awards (in subjects I loved of course) and worked with many friends to win collaborative competitions. But I guess at the end of the day, I just wasn’t good enough. I humbled and I wish the best for you MIT 2014’s

As nerve-racking as it was, I’ve had a great time on CC in the past few weeks. You are all amazing people and maybe I will get to meet some of you someday, whether it be at MIT or another school. I still love MIT and would love to go there if I get in regular, but for now I’ll be busy filling out other apps. Honestly, I expected deferral, and to everyone who got deferred, don’t lose hope in MIT, but most importantly don’t lose confidence in yourself. You got deferred because you will be competitive in the next round. To next years applicants, put everything you have into your essays and you will at least have a shot. [</em>]Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: Sports. Without a doubt, although I’d say my academics are in the mix with the accepted students, I don’t have a super-strong math/science competition background, and I can’t use my school as an excuse since we qualifed 8 to USAMO and 7 to ISEF last year! Volleyball and possibly student gov’t (senior class officer) probably helped me stand out and potentially contribute to the community at MIT. With that said, I still cannot believe I was admitted to my dream school (and I probably don’t deserve it!). Blessed be Your name when the streams of abundance flow (=
[*]Advice? Commiserations? Feel like bragging?:[/ul] Don’t be discouraged if you don’t get in–anyone who applies for MIT definitely has the potential to be successful no matter where one might go for undergraduate education–and be humble in your achievement (though it is amazing) if you’re accepted!</p>
