Consolidated List of Essay Readers on CC

guidedbywire got back to me in under 24hours and was extremely helpful. Same for silverturtle.

Thanks you two!!

thanks elbeeen and clamchowder1, I just sent some of my essays off to someone and will be searching for more editors. Hopefully I can make my EA deadline.

I am a freshman in uni right now. I received lots of help from CC last year and remembered how frustrating writing admission essays can be. If you guys want, I could give some feedback to your essays.

i just want to add that i will only look at polished essay.

I’ll take a look at any good essay (that is a must! applying for ivies, etc) I plan on starting my essays next summer, and would like to garner a few ideas. I got 2400 on the SAT, so I’m pretty qualified.

Everyone said that my comments were really good and I often find around 5 grammar mistakes. If you want me to edit it, (in exchange for perhaps using ideas and style from the essay next year, as I am a junior), you can PM me!

I wanted to reiterate my willingness to read essays. However, since I have had a few dozen essays sent to me in only a couple of weeks, I decided that it would be wise to institute some ground rules.

Guidedbywire’s Rules

 1. If you have an essay you want me to read, PM it to me. No need to send me a PM asking if you can PM it to me, just do it. The only reason you should send me a PM that doesn’t contain an essay is either to request my email (if the text is too long) or to thank me after receiving my response (if you found my advice helpful).

Do not leave me a visitor message. I will not respond to those.

Do not expect a reply to a PM sent to multiple people. I ignore those also.

I will read two essays per person. This can be either two versions of the same one or two separate essays. Send in separate PMs with different titles (ideally something other than “essay”).

Including the prompt (and the school) is not required but can be helpful if you have the space.

Place any special instructions at the top, such as the type of input you’d like to receive, any special concerns you have about the essay and what your response deadline is.

Rising seniors or seniors only please. I don’t want to read essays by sophomores (not because they’re not good, but because you have the luxury of time).

Native English speakers or those 100% fluent only. I am not racist or Xenophobic, honest. But the style of criticism I give (4/5 grammar Nazi, 1/5 overall impression & choice of topic) becomes extremely labor intensive when critiquing essays by a writer with a poor command of the English language.

Please know how to accept criticism. And don’t be defensive about your ultra-creative approach to the essay. Sometimes it just doesn’t work. If you left a giant turd on the paper, I will not hesitate to call it that.

If I especially like your essay, I may ask to see the final version. By final, I mean the one that went out the door, not the next rewrite.

And to save me a little bit of typing:

 • Write out any numbers from zero to ten as words. Use numerals for any number 11 and greater.
 • Format times like this: 11:00 p.m. That means a space after the o’clock numerals, and periods after the lowercase p, a and m.
 • Even though the “rule” that one should never, under any circumstances, end a sentence in a preposition is a myth, millions of people (including the uninformed and the just plain stubborn) refuse to accept this and still believe it to be gospel truth. Thus, I advise people to avoid committing this non-error anyway, in the event that your essay is read by one of the unenlightened.

Blanket suggestion… Don’t write about (or for that matter even mention in your essay) any of the following: addiction; gambling; any kind of illegal activity; recreational drug use; depression or other mental disorders (including suicide attempts).

And read Strunk & White cover to cover before you write it.

…anyone help? i want to choose one from three to be my commonapp essay… no drafts, all these are my published versions. but if you have time, i also want you to revise and detail my essays. if some one could offer help, pm me or email me mhyxiaoma@hotmail.com

thanks a lot.

Could anyone be willing to read my college personal statement I’ll greatly appreciate it for my common app. Giving me great insight and useful feedback would be great also thank you

I’m totally in :)

I’ll add myself to the list of essay readers :)

radronOmega COMPLETELY revamped my essay! It was ridiculous. After his initial corrections, we chatted on AIM almost daily about that essay and future prompts. It’s absolutely above and beyond what the purpose of this thread is for, and I’m thankful for it, wherever I go. I don’t know why everyone doesn’t go to him. Well, he told me this year he’s had over 120 requests, so maybe everyone already has? Worth a shot! His email is apexeffect@gmail.com

Heads up, he gets pretty ****ed if you don’t follow his rules on page 4. I almost thought he wouldn’t correct my papers because I just sent him my essay. ROFL

Courtney is so great.!!!

are there any essay readers out there that will comment on the content of an essay?
so far the essay readers I’ve contacted have been great with editing, but have given me not so good comments on the overall content. I’ve been told that my essays are decent, and okay, which is far from what I want to hear. I want my essays to be extraordinary, and I will rewrite every single one if I have to, is there anyone willing to help?

I’m in the same boat as you, peacelovesoul, I just need someone to look over a couple of supplementary essays for content and how well the essay works, editing I can cover pretty well myself.

Edwardz is definitely great-- he edited mine in a couple of days and gave me a full on speech/commentary almost! he gives really great advice, and he is amazingly qualified.

Thanks!

I agree with spellandcolor, Edwardz is one of the best essay readers I have ever met!

Most of you guys send your essays to people when you want to get your grammar corrected. radronOmega actually looks at how you guys structured the essays and if it actually executes the task. radronOmega looks more on rhetoric and content than grammar. I do recommend him to anyone who wants to have a great essay. He is very harsh though.

does anyone know if radronOmega is still reading essays? It shows he hasn’t been online here for over a year.

He still reads essays. He doesn’t log on much. Just email essays to him.

send me some
