Anyone willing to read over, edit, and critique one of my essays? It would be greatly appreciated!

Gonna re-post this!

I also got into Carnegie Mellon’s CS program with like a 6% acceptance rate even though my stats were not amazing compared to my peers :3 yay radronOmega

**Instead of giving the same response with inconsistent quality levels, I’ll just post a comprehensive answer here to a common question.

Students often wonder how they can differentiate themselves among 20,000+ other applicants. They try to think of original subjects, unique writing styles, or just stark deviations in structure. Differentiating yourself isn’t about actually being DIFFERENT; it’s about being MEMORABLE. When you read that many essays a year, it changes your perception of originality. A lot of things you (and your friends, teachers, etc.) THINK are original…are actually not.

The key is execution. You execute by applying critical thinking.
For example…let’s take a look at a common essay topic from someone two years ago: school debate. **

Common topic, common lesson, common person. Why would I accept him if I’m forced to choose 2 out of a pile of 11?

**See the difference? It just took some poking and prodding to really get to the “core.” The point of a college admission essay isn’t to tell a story. It’s to use a topic as the mechanism to talk about your transferrable traits/personality/special sauce that will uniquely add to the campus, if chosen.

The guy got into HYPS. Just one of many examples. Hopefully that helps.**

I am a 1st year graduate student at Stanford, and I would be more than happy to read your essays. PM me!

Also need a proofread/edit/revise/praise/rip to bytes/etc… thanks

Anyone willing to give their email? i do not have enough posts to send anyone a PM

Applying to the University of Southern California as a business major.

Although I have never personally visited USC, I have enjoyed the marvelous surroundings of Las Angeles itself. The wide variety of people is the main reason I chose USC as one of my top colleges in the first place. Living in Oklahoma my whole life, you basically only get to see the country side of the world. Being a business major at USC would help me expand on the vary international relations I lack, which will help me in the business world down the line. The University of Southern California is in the top twenty five business colleges in the world! Being taught by the best will ensure that I become the most informed on modern business techniques. I also have a great passion for the entertainment industry. With the surroundings of USC basically being the headquarters of entertainment, I will be able to develop as an artist. Hearing that USC has a great student environment is one of the biggest perks a college can provide.

I know it needs a lot of work. That is why I am asking for help. (:
Thank you for your comments. Hopefully this one is slightly better. I will continue until it’s perfect! Or close.

Throughout the years, I have traveled across the United States. When I visited California, specifically Los Angeles, I immediately fell in love with how energetic and friendly the people are. I also love the aspect of how diverse the people are at USC which will help me handle business relations with all types of people after I complete my business major. USC is also located in the city of the “stars”. One of my dreams in life is to be involved in the entertainment industry by either acting or singing. Going to USC and living in Los Angeles will help me develop my skills in becoming an actor and/or singer by interacting with people that already do it for a living. The same goes for business relations. Citizens of Los Angeles and students/teachers at the University of Southern California have more experience dealing with business relations than those of other colleges like the University of Oklahoma. Lastly, USC is very interactive with sports and community service opportunities. One sport I want to continue with is tennis which is offered at USC and being located in Los Angeles there are enormous opportunities for helping communities such as the Habitat for Humanity organization.

**1) The point of this thread is for readers to list themselves, not to “ask” for help. That’s what…the entire FORUM is for.

2) To the guy who says he goes to Stanford with the account “essaycorrector” and a post history of ONLY asking for peoples’ essays? You did an absolutely TERRIBLE job at fraud. I don’t know how anyone could believe that. PM me your stanford email address if you’d like to clear this up.**
