CONSOLIDATED October 2011 MATH (better organized)

for the

402- random “solve for x”

I agree the answer was 402, but it was solve for y.

the question was

(x+2)/10 = 40 and (x+y)/(20) = 40

^ Why’s that 402, it’s 398 o.o

for s^2 - 81/s - 9 = t^2, the answer is t^2 + 9. if you move the equation and divide the numbers by 9, you get s=t^2 - 9 / -1. that would mean you would have to make the 9 a positive number which is t^2 + 9 = s

im pretty sure you can divide s^2 by s since division of variables with exponents is subtraction. therefore s^2 / s^1 = s

@vermilionwaves
Because x is 398, but y is 402 and the question was looking for y.

@cod4pro
How you were supposed to do the problem was simplify the numerator.

s^2 - 81/s - 9 = t^2
= (s+9)(s-9)/(s-9) = t^2

The (s-9) cancel

= s + 9 = t^2

Subtract 9

= s = t^2 - 9

“14. 78 -angle of x in triangle with angle y,y,y”
When I plugged my angle back into the equation (it was what… 24) I got my x to be greater than 100

I’m pretty sure the answer asked for solve for y, which would be 402. Had it asked only for x, then they would not have given the extra information on such a low level problem.

s^2-81/s-9 = s+9 t^2 = s+9 s = t^2-9 What are you doing exactly?..

do you guys think -1 will be a 790

@verm u are right on the s^2 power question.

Also, did you guys think it weird that for the 30-60-90 triangle, square, isostriangle that they gave too much information. That was completely not like the SAT. They usually give the bare minimum.

edit: rd, I think -1 may be 800/790 b/c some of the questions were very challenging, like the circle-circle one.

Not everyone knows the 30-60-90 rule I think, they don’t expect everyone to

But they have the chart thing in the front of the test. I took a double take when I saw you didnt need all the info.

@rd2012
I can’t see the curve being that nice. I got a 680M in March and I’ve gotten ALL the answers list here correct, so I’m thinking the curve will be pretty harsh. Maybe, -1 is 770

“14. 78 -angle of x in triangle with angle y,y,y”
Can someone explain that to me? Sorry.
Cause I was fairly confident in my answer which was not 78.

Well, I took the March one and that math was an absolute joke compared to this one, in my opinion.

For the compiled answers on the previous page. The question involving columns and asking for f(x) + g(x) = h(x) is almost certainly 1. I even remember the numbers. I believe they were 2 + 3 = 5.

so what would a minus -4 skipped -3be? t

aww dang. I was running out of time on that section so I guess I didn’t think of how they were trying to trick me with a binomial square…I think I’m down to around a raw score of 42-44 =/. Oh well, I’m applying to history programs anyways haha

@LoseYourself: Nono, it was 0 for sure! Cause I remember looking at 1 and being like “huh…”
Either f(x) and h(x) were 2 and 3 (because h(x) was in between f(x) and g(x) on the chart) or one of those numbers was a negative or something ahah…
