Consolidated thread about good SAT books

I see. Does Barron's have a critical reading or writing book of this caliber. If so would it be better to but the Barron's math and the reading book instead of rocket review?

Barrons is horrible.

What makes it so horrible. The reviews on Amazon say good things about the MAth workbook. The only thing I want to know is if the book is updated for the new sat

Yes it's for the New SAT and it's amazing!

What fault can you find with it primitivefuture?!

There is nothing better - PR is O.K, but NOTHING compared to Barron's SAT Math Workbook!

OMG it's amazing! :)

What about the barron's verbal workbook?

I don't think Barron's verbal workbook is good, Kaplan sounds much better.

yeh.don't buy Kaplen.. has so many errors and it's too easy compared to real SAT.

seems most people tried Grammatix.. how much does it cost????? I wanna purchase one!

sometime last year i randomly got this fetish about not using books from any company except for CB. I guess it's because I think that doing non-ETS problems will screw my thinking for the actual test. . .it's horrible.

I have been practising sat 1's. I took them in June and need to take them again in November. I consistently score above 750 on all the blue book tests and PR, but on the June test scored 100 - 150 points less on each section. I wasn't nervous taking the test in June. What is going on?? How do I study to get better results on the November test?

vixen,
you should take the tests under REAL test conditions with REAL tests. That's the key. hope it helps.

I'm a little skeptical about buying the Grammatix e-book, since it is a little pricey compare to other books on the market. I bought RocketReview and am currently attending TPR course (my parents paid for that so.. yeah:). My math is around 730+ range, but not enough to get a 800. My verbal score is really bad (500ish) since English is not my native language (therefore, lack of vocabulary). So, if I want to increase my verbal & writing score to the 600-700 range and hit the 800 for math, should I buy the Grammatix book?

How do you guys think of Gruber's?It is seemingly lacking in CR guides.

Yea, Gruber's is not the best choice for CR. The Math section is good though. I haven't really read the writing much, but it looks like it has a pretty comprehensive grammar review.

Yeah, that book, with tons of grammar and Math reviews but very little CR instruction, surprised me a lot.Besides,I don't know why some people consider Dr Gruber 'the most prominent guru of SAT preparation' :D
