1sokkermom, even as a person who has gotten into and visited both Duke and Penn, I believe they don't really deserve their rankings. Sure, they're great schools but just visit HPYSMC and see how they're influencing our world in the news and you'll know the difference from the cream of the crop and the OK.

Only on CC would Duke and Penn be labeled merely "OK."

You know how it goes.....the rankings come out and everyone feels the need to lift their leg on the other guy. We live for this discussion until Dec when we can hash out the ED postings.

There were some posts in here about faculty and financial resources for Penn and Duke.

I think I posted some data about these factors in post 261.

Penn and Duke report as part of their expenses per student even their expenses for their huge medical centers/hospitals which frankly have nothing to do with any studetn including the med students. Also they include as part of their professorship even their doctors and hospital staff. That changes the number of professors from 800 to 2800 (just guessing) which would make up for a huge difference wouldn't it?

BTW you can see how Duke falls from 218000+ to 98000+ only by removing its medical center expenses. Same with most othe schools with huge medical centers like Emory, WUSTL, Vanderbilt, Penn....etc.

...only to read debates on the inherent injustice of Affirmative Action programs.

I don't feel like reading 25 pages of dribble drabble about OH HOW CAN THIS IVY BE LOWER THAN THAT ONE!, I just want to know which colleges rose and dropped the most. If theres a link, i'd like it thanks.

It may help to start reading a thread at the beginning. Check the first page of THIS thread.

Seems to me that a properly designed "popularity contest" has it's relevance; you may criticize the design; you might tweak the imputs. But, there's nothing wrong with comparing the results compiled by USNews to actual real world conditions. Also, the self-fulfilling prophecy or, as you put it, the "looking into a mirror" distortion can be applied just as well to USNews.

Can someone verify that Dartmouth and Columbia overall scores 89 this year is up over last year. I remember it being 87 for both last year. Can someone verify or post the correct information for me.

thanks Hazmat. I have the premium editon and know this year's score I wanted to compare it to last year? what was Dartmouth and Columbia's overall score last year? Can anyone help.

I gave the rag away and of course the online has expired which you already know. I guess you could ask on the school thread or maybe look up an old thread from last year. Sorry

Iceman, would you mind if I use your list to create some math questions this year...mean, median and mode.... more relevant than some of the numbers I use.

One way to look at it is student satisfaction with their 4 years experience at the university/college and how much or little it contributed to their success later in life. I for one have contributed little to one of two colleges I attended (transfered my junior year) and would not recommend it to anyone asking for guidance in regard to choice of a college.

I appreciate the rankings given here, especially by "barrons" on the overall and business rankings; because I am doing a economics/commerce-business degree probably. Thus, some rankings on Social Sciences overall basis or more appreciably Economics itself would be greatly welcome. Thank you all for help. FYI, I'm a south-east-asian grade 12 student.
