Consolidation Loans

Please point me to a thread and/or please help! Does anyone know which lenders (private) are currently doing consolidation of student/parent college loans? I hear Wells Fargo, but are their others? In particular, will they consolidate government and private together as well? My situation in NJ is NJCLASS has run out of funds and will not consolidate NJCLASS loans for now (typically they did), so am wondering if a private lender will do so....

Thanks!!!

BUMP!!! Pretty please…

Have you logged onto myfedloan.gov.?
If you have federal loans, there is a consolidation process going on now, but there are restrictions on which loans you can consolidate. Hope this helps.

My question was private consolidation…is wells fargo the only one out there? Does anyone know if NJCLASS is coming out with someting new soon?

Thx!!!

Is there something wrong with WellsFargo?

No…just wondered if anyone had experiences with others? Are they the only ones out there?

Don’t know- we only have government loans

Why do you want to consolidate your loans? Will it lower your interest rate for some of those loans, or will it just make your life easier to pay one bill rather than several each month?

I am actually helping a friend who simply cannot afford the monthly payments on the loans they took out for their student (now due because they were defereed until graduation)…by consolidating the loans, they can reduce monthly payments considerably (although over time it will cost more in interest). Unfortunately, in NJ, the NJCLASS consolidation loan is no longer available and was simply trying to find out what options are out there…it appears no one in the community has experience with these…

Try one more bump…is Wells Fargo the only private (non-government) student loan consolidation option? Anyone know of others?

Chase has them, as do a number of banks. Just google “private student loan consolidation” and you can get a list. Your friend will have to sludge through the list and find out what works best for her. She will need a cosigner, and there are maximums, plus interest rates will depend on the credit score of the co signer.

Unfortunately Chase nor other banks that used to do this do it any more…that’s why I am here! So far I have only seen Wells Fargo and one “credit union” that only does it for limited, specific reasons…

ANY specific options you could find would be greatly appreciated…

Thx!
