Consulting/Industrial Eng. Internships

What are some good internships for consulting and industrial engineering?

Also, what do consulting interns do? The firms can not possibly give you a case study, or can they?

bump...

Interested more in IE internships?.?...

If you have strong grades the big management consulting firms have great internship programs for kids with different engineering backgrounds. You will assist in projects for different client projects doing a wide variety of things. Look at Bain, BCG and McKinsey.

I was an IE major (though its been renamed since I graduated). Interestingly enough, as hmom5 pointed out, the vast majority of us went on to finance and consulting. Part of it was that my university didn't offer a finance major and econ just wasn't the right fit for a lot of people. I think IE is a great major as it gives you flavors both in the quantitative and qualitative. People argue that we lack depth but we sure make it up with breadth!

All the management and strategy consulting companies will have internships as will the ibanks - though times have certainly changed. I would spend time looking at the boutique consulting and financial firms. Interns continue to be a cost effective way for firms to evaluate future talent while continuing to execute project based work.
