contacting teachers for sample lessons

<p>ok I feel a little silly for asking this, but hey every little detail counts....so, I was wondering just how would one go about contacting music teachers at the colleges they'll be auditioning at to get a sample lesson? I'm going to Chicago this February for auditions and will be there for about a week and would like to meet with teachers while I'm there, preferably before the auditions. I would imagine directly by email is the way to go, but is there any specific format and does anyone have any recommendations for wording? Also, is it appropriate to ask about price in the letter requesting a sample lesson? It has to come up eventually and I think it's probably a good idea to get everything out in the open initially, what do you guys think? </p>

<p>I think that email is probably your best bet. Please understand that teachers may not be willing to meet with you during audition week. It is usually a very busy week for them. However, you lose nothing by asking. And it is fine to inquire about any fee. I don’t think there are any rules for inquiring about a lesson. Be polite and businesslike. Be brief. State that you quite understand if they are too busy to meet with you during auditions. Be willing to be as flexible as possible. It is also possible they won’t be able to meet with you until after the audition. If that is the offer, take them up on it. Good luck to you!</p>
