D has emailed head of voice private instruction at a univ she is very interested in to request a sample lesson while visiting. She attached a CV, offered a range of dates and asked for this instructor's fee. No response over the past week. Would it be poor form to send another email? Or maybe she should contact the department secretary instead? What do you advise?

I would suggest a phone call. To the teacher if you can find the number, or to the department secretary if you cannot. Some teachers simply do not bother with email or else check it very infrequently.

Good advice from BassDad. If you can’t reach the teacher, do call the department secretary. Teacher have been out of town and are busy getting the school year underway, casting for fall productions.etc, and believe it or not, there are teachers who just don’t check their e-mail (or don’t know how to use it and have student assistants), so your D needs to be persistent. I think it would even be OK for you to make the call to the secretary if need be to get things underway.

Thanks for the advice. I think we will wait until the end of this week. She is also Dept Chairman and may be involved with admin matters regarding add/drop and auditions at the college, as you said. Then we will pick up the phone and call her directly.
