So i just found out about my housing situation and i had contact information for my new roomate and i was just wondering what people have done, have you email phoned ect. and what do you say its all seems rather awkward anyways...

I called my roommate first, because they only gave me her number, not an email. During the call, I got her email and we mostly emailed back and forth and texted some. It is pretty awkward, esp since the first time I called I got her voicemail and I had to be like, "Um... hi, this is er your roommate....um Kaylin...yeah so... um... I guess call me back when you get this so we can talk... right. bye"

i emailed first... if you have the person's email address, i recommend that, it's definitely WAY less awkward! :)

we actually ended up emailing a lot over the summer, and learned a lot about each other in the process! it made me excited to come, i wanted to meet my roomie!! :)

i called my roommate , we decided who was bringing what (i brought the tv vcr and fridge, she brought the stereo system tv stand and microwave) it was just a fluke that we picked out the same color blankets and when we got to school we went out and she bought a rug and i bought curtains.

If you use AIM DEFINITELY get that. My roommate and I talked all the time online, and it definitely helped us to get acquainted much quicker...and then when you do have to call them, it's much less awkward than that initial conversation.

We all e-mailed each other and kind of had this mass e-mail thing going.

They only gave me my roomie's college e-mail, and something is telling me she doesn't check it much considering I haven't got a response for four weeks. Or she just hated my name and demanded a roommate change.

Who knows, my college roommate didn't have a computer. Not at her house or in college. She either used mine or went to the labs. So when I originally e-mailed her she didn't even get it till after we moved in together.

i had two roommates, one of which (as i said above) i spoke with frequently via email. my other roommate responded to one or two emails and then none further - she was really busy, and travelling a lot, so you just really never know!

First my roommate and I e-mailed back and forth (a couple of really long e-mails about ourselves and a couple of short e-mails about the type of stuff we wanted to do in the room), and then we played phone tag. We both left each other messages on the phone, but I don't think that we ever actually talked to each other before we moved in.
