Content Insurance

Hi all,

Does anyone know how internationals go about getting insurance for personal items like laptops, phones and what not while studying in the US?

Thanks!

You could google personal property insurance for college students.

After reading the conditions and exclusions I decided not to buy an insurance. My laptop has its own insurance with accidental damage coverage and everything else doesn’t need one. The odds of someone breaking into a locked dorm room or a fire in the dorm destroying my belongings are so small that I can take that risk myself. (And to file a claim I would need to prove that I owned an item in the first place, which is tricky for most items. Who keeps bills for most of their belongings?)

To add to my previous post: When you buy electronics in the US, you will be offered an insurance plan to go along with it. However, if you bring electronics with you from your home country, you will have a hard time getting an insurance for them except through a personal property insurance (which might cover forceful theft and accidental damage, but not any sort of “naturally occurring” hardware problem).
