Hello, I was looking through schools and law related majors and I stumbled on Illinois state. I agree with you guys about not majoring in accounting because it is too time consuming. So, i found that Illinois State University has an Economics- Managerial focus with a pre-law option. It is also way less hours in the major then accounting would have been. still deciding if i should minor in philosophy or polysci

You mentioned ISU upthread. It could be a good option, but you need to compare it to NIU and UIC…any school that you can commute to will be less expensive (obviously). All schools talked about on this thread will have an econ major that will be fine for preparing you for law school.
You don’t have to decide your minor now. Focus on finding an affordable option to transfer to.
Also I can afford to pay about 300 a month now.
At UIC they require precalculus for entry and i am already taking calculus and possibly stats already.
Could you afford room and board at ISU?
i believe so or partial
BTW, where are your parents in this entire mess? Shouldn’t they have given you some guidance? Are they supporting you?
It really has seemed that there is nobody there around you who knows anything about college admissions and who you can ask for help.
I decided I don’t like the accounting/economics route what do you guys think about data science or infomatics
It has nothing to do with what we think. What do you think about it? . Research it and report back.
Managerial economics (or similar) major with a philosophy or poli sci minor sounds like an excellent path to law school.
Take into classes in Poli sci and philosophy next semester to see how you like them. Philosophy will require the most precise reading and extensive writing so it’s really useful for law school but political theory also would.
Im worried that if i major in accounting that jobs will replaced by automation. So, I am wondering if i should just switch to ds or cs. But im not that good at math
@bubblytaco , Please (please) don’t take this the wrong way, as I’m rooting for you! But I wonder if you need to get things sorted out. You seem to always be changing your mind, which is fine, but perhaps you should take a step back, think things through, and then make a decision.
Yes, jobs are important, and most young people no longer go into college completely undecided. I fear that you are overthinking things. Figure out what you are most interested in. Business? Economics? Accounting? (NOTE: I do not think that accountants will disappear). It sounds like you are most interested in something business-oriented, yet then you mention computer science and data science. Earlier you mentioned law (law school is a decision you make later; you can major in anything and go to law school).
Again, don’t take my comments the wrong way. I just sense that you need to make a decision and move forward. Keep in mind, too, that you’ll change not only jobs but also careers over the course of your life. Best of luck!
If you’re not good at math, then Data Science and CS are going to be a struggle. What you might want to look into if you’re interested in business (you are, right?) and think some technical skills would help you, is MIS or Information Systems.

Don’t rush. CC is cheap so you’re better off taking your time there rather than rushing into the wrong major at a university that will cost you a lot more.
Take a variety of classes where you read and write a lot. Explore business fields and subjects. Get as many A’s as you can. If your CC has an honors program, join it. Then only transfer to a 4-year college and choose a major.
