I was just wondering how important it is in college essays to use or not use contractions. Most of the english courses I’ve taken in high school stress that you should never use contractions in a formal essay, but in a college essay the main point is to show some aspect of your self. I feel that with this being the goal, it is better to use a more natural sentence structure, so instead of saying “I will not feel…” I would say “I won’t feel…” I have had some people tell me to change this and others support it, and was wondering what input you had.
Contractions are fine.
