Contracts for Returning Students

Has anyone received one yet? I can't remember when it arrived last year (or the year before, for that matter.)

zp

Just got ours a couple of days ago. Looks like tuition is going up . . . .

Got our day school contract already but not BS.

Not a contract but a letter stating that tuition is increasing about 3.5% (less than the 5-6% we were led to expect from info provided last year). The letter also stated that a “no-cost laundry program for all boarders” would be provided next year. DS will really appreciate that, I’m sure, but I like the fact that he is washing his own clothes. Wonder what the chance of him continuing that will be.

diito here; day student contract already turned in, nothing from bs yet. And…it seems like tuition does go up every year…

Nothing yet.

One BS yes, one not yet.

Have received the email telling us what need year’s tuition will be (!!!) that says the contracts will come next month after the long Spring Break.

I would have thought the schools would want them back before March 10th as it might make a difference in number of available spots in the upper grades.

zp

Come to think of it - I remember the contracts coming after March 10th last year. I suspect they assume you’re coming back and if you don’t, it creates possibilities to go to the waiting list. I think schools ask about financial aid needs prior to March 10th for budgeting purposes.

Wow, ChoatieMom, a no-cost laundry program for all boarders? I want my kids at Choate! It’s over $700 at our son’s school. For a variety of reasons and after much debate, we determined it was necessary (and exceptionally painful and against all core parenting beliefs) to purchase the service for him. Thanks for sharing that.

Don’t have any details other than that quote from the letter, so not getting too excited yet. For those paying for laundry service, not having to pay will offset the tuition increase a bit. Other schools that Choate competes with for students have “free” laundry, so I’m thinking that someone in the marketing department came up with that. Choate also has a new headmaster this year who has made a few small changes that the community seems to like. Perhaps this was his idea, who knows? I’m just thinking that it gets bundled into the tuition hike as part of operating expenses and now everyone is paying for laundry. Cynical hubby thinks it simply refers to the on-campus laundromat; the equipment is provided “free”, but you have to insert quarters to make it go. Ha! (Don’t mean to hijack the thread; laundry seems to be a sensitive BS subject, no pun intended. Check the archives for threads.)

Now back to the original topic…

I’ve just printed our new (and final) BS contract. Very please to see no tuition increase for 2012-13.
Laundry has always been free at GS, thanks to the savings realized through the campus-wide co-op program.

When we were visiting colleges last year the ones with free laundry make a HUGE deal of it. ANd it really is free - no-coins needed washers and dryers in the dorms. Unfortunately, my son did not pick one of those…

Oh, and I have not seen our contract for next year yet. Expect it any day as I was told they like to know what kind of money they are working with for the new admits.

DA’s laundry machines are free. However, most kids purchase the laundary service because of the convenience and time savings. If Choate will really give ‘free’ laundry [such as bedsheets, blankets, dresses, dress shirts/slacks, etc], I’d be surprised. But if they are, expect DA to quickly follow. No way DA will allow Choate to have any advantage!

I’m pretty sure Choate will only be offering free washers/dryers. I really can’t imagine ER Laundry striking any deal with the school that would enable them to offer any reasonable pickup/dropoff service at no charge. I don’t have any details, though, just guessing.
