Conveying Passion in Activities

Hi guys,

So the trend with admissions now, as many are aware of, is to accept those who are passionate versus well rounded. I'm a high school rising senior and started my own nonprofit which I am very passionate about, but I am confused about how to convey this. Assuming I had an interview, I could thoroughly explain the cause and really show that I was interesting. However, I don't for my top choice colleges, and I feel that the small activity section (like 150 words or something) doesn't really convey the depth of complication/coolness that accompanies my activity. On the other hand, I feel that discussing it in the essay portion would be counterproductive because assuming the activity wasn't considered as impressive as I believe or was misunderstood, the Admission officers wouldn't really get to know me as a person. I have a substandard GPA, so I need this to get me in. Any advice? Should I do something like make a brag sheet with a more detailed explanation of our accomplishments?

Thank you for reading the long post.

Your extracurriculars might not be much of a factor for admissions at the schools where you plan to apply. If they don’t interview students, they are quite possibly the type of schools that decide mostly on stats.

But, you can certainly take advantage of the additional information section to give some details about your nonprofit.

Okay, thank you! Though I am applying to schools such as UVA which definitely factor in extracurriculars). Any other pieces of advice?
