i know some student cook their own food. I am quite excited about this. I think that I'll have to learn how to cook later in the future anyways. So, are there any cooking classes where we could learn cooking? or is it one of those skills you should be prepared with prior to coming to MIT?

EC has some cooking classes you could sign up for. They’re new, and they’re amazing.

But you don’t necessarily need a class. Often times, you can join in with other hallmates or take a simple cookbook and learn things :)

I agree with Piper. Though I am prefrosh, I love too cook. You dont need a cooking class. You can pick up a cookbook or recipe you like and just go. Cooking with someone else is great bonding too!

EC cooking classes are currently for EC residents only. Cookbooks are for everyone, however. I highly recommend this one: [Amazon.com: The America’s Test Kitchen Cookbook (9780936184548): Editors of Cook’s Illustrated Magazine: Books](http://www.amazon.com/Americas-Test-Kitchen-Cookbook/dp/093618454X/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1270569813&sr=1-3).

This one: http://www.amazon.com/Cook-Everything-Completely-Revised-Anniversary/dp/0764578650/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1270569908&sr=1-1 is also good.

Thanks! this will be really great. prolly the first few months will be quite an adjustment but then it’ll be fine the rest of the four years

Freshman year I made a lot of sandwiches and Kraft Mac and Cheese. Like anything, you get better with practice. If you live in a dorm with kitchens, there will likely be lots of upperclassmen around at varying levels of cooking skill, and you’ll definitely pick things up from them.

^Same here, except for me it was microwaveable Uncle Ben’s rice bowls. I got a lot better by the time I graduated.

Man, you guys are lame. I made curry on Sunday and I’m making potato leek soup on Thursday.

Various floors also have cooking clubs (I ate delicious food yesterday from ours), so if you get some skills, you can probably join one.
