Nothing like a good cream sauce now and again!
Last night was clear the frig of leftovers night. Everyone on their own. Tonight is carryout then tomorrow will be back to cooking.
@FallGirl I’m a big kale as salad fan. I choose kale over most other greens. I massage it, add some raw veggies, a cheese like feta, fresh parm or manchengo, olives, sliced almonds and anything else I"m up for. Sometimes a lemon based dressing or garlic.
Chinese Takeout tonight! ?
Well, since it’s Friday, I baked my usual 2 challahs but made one with everything bagel seasoning sprinkled on top. Then, since dinner will be “clean out the refrigerator”, I also baked the Ottolenghi Blueberry-Almond cake recipe that was in the NYT recently. I did modify a bit based on comments to add more lemon zest, reduce the sugar, and cook at a lower temperature. My D took the first slice and it’s delicious.
I’m very picky about seafood and my local place is not offering curbside pick up. So…I ordered from Pike Street Fish market in Seattle. Over-nighted some wild line caught salmon, some sea bass, and a couple of octopodes. Yes, I’m in a happy place right now…
We’ll be eating a high class Costco rotisserie chicken tonight. Some asparagus and I’ll eat more kale in a salad. I did make from scratch ranch dressing though! It was easy and smells delicious - lots of dill and garlic chives.
I will eat just about anything but one thing I haven’t fully warmed up to in the past is salmon. Seems like everyone loves it! I know I hear people say they like to buy the salmon at Costco - if you buy it there - do you buy the salmon from the ready-made area or the frozen salmon of some sort? What is your favorite (easy) way to prepare it?
This is another thing by H will not eat - but I need to fulfill my food desires too!
It’s younger son’s last day of 10th grade today so we’re doing one of his favorite celebration meals at home. He loves the Melting Pot, so we’re making a three course fondue dinner - cheese, oil, then chocolate.
Never mind!
@abasket We buy the fresh salmon at Costco with the herb butter on top. H grills it on a plank. Also love their vacuum packed salmon for bagels.
We buy fresh salmon and grill it many different ways: bourbon-glazed, teriyaki, lemon and dill, rosemary/olive oil, herbs/butter smoked, planked… We love it just about any way. Just Google for recipes. So many choices.
Tonight is grilled Romaine salad and gazpacho.
Grilled N.Y. strip, roasted broccolini with Parmesan, garlic and lemon, baked potato. Ice cream with strawberries marinated with sugar and Grand Marnier.
I love gazpacho.
Since our restaurants are opening, I ordered one last family meal. Lasagna, salad, bread and maybe a strawberry crisp thing. Everything but the dessert was delicious. I’ll miss these family meals. And I’m not ready to dine in person yet
Today was grocery pick up day. I got everything filled in my order except for meats. Good thing I have some stashed in the freezer which I don’t do in normal times. I did get some fish.
While husband was picking up the groceries, he did pick up some lobsters that were on sale for $5.99/lb. The dumb thing was I called to order the lobster ahead of time to have it steamed and ready for pick-up. They said because of Covid-19, they are no longer doing phone orders. You have to come order it in person and pick it up. Seems ass-backwards.
Lobster was good. We had 1 each and split a third and have one leftover for a lobster roll or something tomorrow. The lobsters were so hard shell that my husband had to take two out to the garage to take a hammer to the claws because we just couldn’t open them with the crackers. Corn on the cob. More caprese. Very summery feeling including husband drinking rose and temps in the mid-80s.
@doschicos That sounds like heaven!
Great price on the lobster!
I wonder how my store is handling the steam and pick up.
We had pizza with artichoke and bacon from our fav parlor. Antipasto, too.
Now we’re going to turn on fire pit and have a drink and relax. Lovely night out.
Had a late 3pm lunch. We weren’t hungry for dinner so we skipped straight to dessert.
Ben & Jerrys Half Baked and Haagen Daz Vanilla Swiss Almond?
^^ I support that!
Lobster for $5.99/pound - not much different than ground beef for goodness sakes!
Many of our restaurants are still doing family meals and focussing on take out even though they can open now. I personally have no interest in eating AT a restaurant. We will continue to do take out.
Ground beef has gotten very pricy here - if you can even get it. However, with lobster a lot of the weight is the shell and other bits you don’t eat.
^^ I’d still gladly pay it!
Tonight we’ll be ordering take out from a favorite Lebanese restaurant as we will be celebrating my son’s bday (28!).
Baked his requested cake though this morning and in lieu of gifts he asked us to help he and his wife with a house project. But I saw a recipe this week for something that he loves in real life - Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal! So I bought a fun plastic container with a scoop and make the Cinnamon Toast Crunch this morning and am wrapping it up as a gift. Have to say, it tasted delicious!!!
