Cool Stuff to Bring to College

I think we should start a list of cool stuff/gadgets that would be fun to have in college for dorm life.

I'll start with:
MEGA Play and Freeze Ice Cream Maker
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000FKBZFY/ref=dp_also-recommended_3/104-6263712-2543134?%5Fencoding=UTF8&n=3375251&s=sporting-goods&v=glance
I think this would be a lot of fun because you can gather all of the ingredients, go out to the courtyard for a nice game of catch, and when you are done you can eat the ice cream you just made!

Phase10

This a fun game that takes a long time so it's good for late-night bonding and you can play in a large group.

Anyone else have any fun "essentials" for college?

TV + Console, particularly XBOX/XBOX360 because of easy network hookups. In dorms where all the rooms are connected to a LAN, all-night gaming sessions are a riot.

Stanford does it better, students actually play XBOX and PS2 in the damn library...or so I've heard.

do people play a lot of video games in college? like how common is it?

Oh. My. God. My entire dorm spare the two or three decent kids I hung out with were all video game geeks. I swear to you, you could knock on a different door and join in for a totally different "tournament" those nerds were running.

All the guys I know play video games. If they don't have anything else to do, they play Halo. It's pretty amusing to just sit and watch them play though, because they start yelling obscenities at each other. And they're like, "you need to learn how to play! nothing hotter than a chick who plays Halo!" and I'm just like, no that's okay. Mostly because I have the worst hand-eye coordination ever. I can't even get past the third level of Super Mario World.

My family owns one of those ice-cream balls, and they're pretty cool. The ice cream that we made was pretty good, though it took quite a while, because the ice kept melting. Also, you can't really do much more than roll it across the ground, or maybe play very short range catch (just a few feet) because the plastic breaks pretty easily.

well cell phone is a must have cuz im like always talking or texting. u def need some sort of comp or laptop. tv and dvd player. ipod and ipod speakers.

HALO brought gaming tournaments into the mainstream, it's very popular on the West Coast college campuses.

For the over-21 crowd, may I suggest some crystal stemware?

For the non-IPod crowd, a nice stereo system.

Get a landline that gets great reception. It was nice to be able to take the phone down to the basement and talk while doing laundry. Yes, get a landline!

Super-comfy easy chair, preferably one that is relatively easy to move. Or get a papasan. :)

Video games are a huge part of any college guys existence. My recommendation, if you can do it, is to bring down the old school consoles. We have the NES, SNES, Gensis all at our place (along with some newer consoles), and really, that's all we play. Our XBox has basically turned into a super fancy DVD player. I also have to say, ladies love the Duck Hunt... people will come over just to play that game.

For the over 21 crowd, yes the crystal stemware is a good idea. Since you're a bit older, it's time to start acting like a classy drunk. A good cocktail shaker is also a neccessity, and a carousel shot dispenser (usually 4 or 6 bottles) is just friggin sweet. Of course, this is not to say that the plastic red cup is out of style, far from it, but when you're chillin at home with a drink it's nice to go classy.

Also, I'd have to recommend a good folding portable camping chair. These things are gold. You can set it up in your room for video games/TV watching/having friends over, fold it up when you need more space, take it out to the tailgate/camping trip/whatever. It's just good.

Video Games: Bring them if you intend on having people over to play.

Because some people's perception is that those who bring consoles to dorms have no life.

I know a friend's brother who brought his PS2 to play millions of RPGs in his dorm all alone...

I love old school video games, especially my SNES. I lost my NES, but I would play that too if I had it (I'll probably go get one on Ebay someday). I just use my PS2 to play DDR because the gym's too far away and I don't want to get sunburn from staying in the sun too long. :D

Dude, I would totally come over to play Duck Hunt. I am a Duck Hunt fanatic, but I haven't played it since I was a kid (I kicked ass at it then though). If the guys I knew had duck hunt, they'd never get me to go home. They have a NES but they never use it. If I still had my Super Mario game, I'd bring it over to play with them instead of Halo. Halo doesn't interest me in the slightest, except watching their reactions to what's going on. At one point, they had 6 people playing on 2 screens and were screaming obscenities at each other for two hours. That was fun to watch.

pot:P....a microwave is also very important

yes if you bring pot then you better bring provisions for munchies

some textbooks.

I'm briging my Wii. Both :p

To everyone who's playing with 15 year old systems, Xbox Live Arcade=Best friend.
Or the Wii. Whichever one

Chicks love the Wii-Wii ;) Must buy list on every College kid on November.

some exotic stuff like Jerry Garcia's ashes in a pouch, a national weapon, hookah disguised as a religious shrine :wicked smile:, etc.
