Can anyone give me a ballpark estimate for how much money I will make when doing coop? I only have roughly 20k a year to go to college and want to know how much the coop will help. Thanks.

I think that depends on what your major is and where you will work during your co-op.

yeah it does, but I'm just looking for a ballpark. My majors economics btw

The average for a 6-month coop looks like it's $7,400 (notice that they report the figure as an annual figure).

That's below Massachusetts minimum wage, I believe.

Marathonman: the average amount they reported was over $14,000; yes this is annually but you only do co-op for 6 mos in one year so this is also for the entire co-op period. However, it does depend greatly on your major, and also on your living costs - if you do your co-op in the Boston area and need to pay for housing etc (as opposed to doing it in your home town and living at home for free, for instance), that may greatly reduce how much you can "save" for the semesters you are in class.

thanks for all the info

sfehonda, let me just add...the coop students I hear about are making from $13-$20 per hour...but pay attention to what scansmom is saying. My son is on coop now. He is bringing home about $1200 per month but he is still living in the dorm and on a meal plan. He isn't necessarily saving a lot for the next tutition by doing a coop.
If your hometown is in an area where there is a lot of business/industry and you and your parents think it would work for you to live at home during your coop then obviously you will be able to save more of your coop salary.
Also, if you are on coop say spring and summer one of your sophomore year you will be paying half tution, taking classes and living in the dorm for summer two so there will be that expense to figure in.
