Im currently a student at UT but Im considering transfering to Copper Union for Architecture.

I was accepted to Pratt and while visiting during April of senior year learned about Cooper Union so I have never applied. I love NY but Im not sure if I should stick with UT (which I love and am having no problems with. ) or at least try to get into Cooper.

Im wondering if anyone has any opinons on which school is better. Or differences in the schools.

Nerd, I guess I will state the obvious; the differences in the architecture programs pales in comparison to the differences between the environments. Texas and Cooper both have solid, well thought of five year programs, and someone may be better able to explain the differences. However, moving from a 50,000 student campus in sunny, laid back Austin, to a small urban campus in the Village is going to be a cultural shock. Being at Columbia was like being in the country compared to living in the Village. You are going to have to spend some time there to decide if it is really for you. I had a burning desire to get to New York, but I waited till graduate school and loved the experience (at least until those pesky children came along), I am just not sure I would have been ready for it as an undergrad.

I don't know if I want/need to go to graduate school. If I graduated from UT and went to say, Columbia for grad school would that give me an edge or change what sort of jobs I can get?

I am a 2nd year Cooper student, and if you have any questions I would be happy to answer them. On the idea of it being a cultural shock --It isn't as shocking as you might think, or at least it wasn't for me. But Rick is right, Cooper Architecture will definitely change your life.
