Hi! I’m new to this site so I’m sorry if I’m asking any redundant questions or posting this in the wrong place, etc. Anyways, Cornell is my first choice but I am extremely concerned about my SAT2 grades. I took math2 and scored a 680 which is extremely low and a 730 in chemistry which is pretty mediocre. And my gpa is a 92 unweighted. My gpa is not my major concern even though it seems rather low because of the context of my school (I go to a specialized hs and they accept around 70 students a year from my school and my gpa is within their range for my school). But I definitely know that my math2 score is wayyy lower than what it should be. And no, I don’t have time to re-take them because I’m currently a hs senior. My question is how much do they consider sat2 scores during the admissions process? (aka do they carry a relatively significant weight in the admissions process) I’m applying to the arts and sciences college ED if that helps.
As for essays/supplements is there anything in particular they like to see? (I know, I know, be yourself but I was just wondering if there’s anything they are specifically looking for since I understand they are huge on writing and compatibility). And are they the type of school to appreciate a little more personality/tasteful and appropriate humor in their supplements or do they prefer professional, traditional, serious or even philosophical types of writing? As for the supplement asking about why I chose the arts and sciences college specifically, how should I format it/what should I include? Is it better to talk about the current programs offered and what I’m interested in, briefly talk about my plans for the future, how I discovered my love for science, etc. That’s the supplement I am struggling the most with at the moment and I think it’s also the most important.
I just fell in love with the entire “any student, any study” concept and many other aspects of the school that sets it apart from the traditional Ivy and am really hoping to get in so any help would be greatly appreciated!! And don’t feel the need to sugar coat anything. I do understand how selective of a school Cornell is and how difficult it is to be accepted.
