I just received an email from some CAAAN representatives from my county to meet with them and some of their other members, and to meet with several alumni. But they only gave me one date, and that's when I have my Columbia interview!

Is this thing like an interview? It does not seem at all like the emails for interviews at other colleges I have gotten; it seems more like an automated email for an information session. But at Cornell, is this what counts as an interview? Will I be contacted for an actual interview in addition to this? They are having sessions at various times of the day, and are asking me to RSVP about which one I want to attend.

I really don't know what to do, I am so confused! Can somebody please share if they have gotten similar emails, or if they have gone to one of these sessions? Will it really hurt me if I can't attend? Should I try to work something out? Or should I tell them that I can't come? I feel like ignoring the email is definitely not a good idea, but I'm not really sure what to do!

Don’t get stressed out over this. Cornell’s interview is informational, it doesn’t count much (if at all) for admission. If you could reschedule your Columbia interview, great, you may be able to get additional information about Cornell by attending CAAAN, otherwise just let them know that you have a conflict.

Agreed.^

A thought from something I read a while ago (don’t quote):
You SHOULD definitely express your interest in an interview. Failure to respond or outright refusal without explanation results in a wonderful little box called “refused an interview” being ticked, which, in the very least, sounds very negative.

I am wondering how they pick who gets contacted by CAAAN and does it really mean anything- If you are going to be a clear denial would they be wasting their time meeting with thousands of students?

I am asking because my daughter received an email for this informal CAAAN meeting at a local Panera.

Should be be taking this as she has not been flat out denied yet?

I don’t know about CAAN in particular, but I was emailed about an interview with a Cornell alumnus. I declined and there were no repercussions. From the gist of the email it seemed information if anything, and definitely not required by any means.

I think on some level it demonstrates interest, either way it’s like a painless hour that can’t hurt your application. ^
