ok so im really exited about Cornell and its basically my dream school, these are my stats:

International student (probably a bad thing?)

IB DP with a predicted score of 40 with 7(Bio),7(ita),6(chem) in my HL subjects.

3 great teacher recommendations.

Lived in 3 countries.

Fluently speak 3 languages and speak extremely well 2 more.

Extracurriculars: AIDS shelter, Soup kitchen, Blind school etc.

National team, national champion & 4th in europe in my sport (karate-sadly not a competitive sport there...)

Pretty good essays (took a LOT of time and revision...)

SATs-PROBLEM i got 1720 on my first ones, im going to retake them and Cornell said that is fine by them (So i can send the January scores)-but i am still worried.

In general-what are my chances for Cornell (intended College-CALS)

What is your GPA? What is your class rank? Have you taken any subject tests, if so what are your scores? Can you estimate your new SAT score? What country do you live in? What is your race? Do you have any hooks? Can you elaborate on your ECs?

Sorry so many questions, the extra information will help with chancing you…

Second artsy girl’s questionnaire… loads to be taken into consideration before a somewhat accurate chance can be made or else it’s just shooting darts in the dark!

Im from italy, class rank-we have no class rank but more or less top 5%, race-White european, no subjects tests-they are not needed for CALS + I already do IB so it should be enough, next SAT’s i expect to get 2000+ now that i have time to prepare and i am fanmiliar with the test type, GPA i do IB so no GPA but a 40 is pretty good about 3.9 GPA or higher? (im not sure at all) but i do know that IB 38 is already great for Cornell so 40 is well above ok, and hooks nope not really im from italy and lived in several countris and i speak 5 languages so i would bring a lot of open mindedness and internationality but idk if thats a hook… and my EC, i have been going to an AIDS shelter helping out there, i have also participated in projects to raise money for Haiti and i have gone to a school for the blind and visually imapaired socializing and helping out the kids there. At the AIDS shelter we mostly “fight” so to say, discrimination and go there to help them integrate with society and most of all raise awareness. Soup kitchen well thats just a soup kitchen i go there and help out and give food and most of all talk to the homeless. Aside from these i also have a bunch of other EC in my commonapp such as tutoring other students, found raising projects, art clubs and various sports which i have practiced. Thsnks for the help. :)

Yes but imnot gonna apply with 1720 i contacted them and said i would retake them in january and send those scores too-they said they are fine with that.

You will be a applicant (minus the slightly low SAT). You have to remember that it is harder to get in as an international student, and that Cornell is very competitive. So it will be a reach, but you will be a qualified applicant.

the problem with Cornell is that they won’t let you score choice, so they’ll see the 1720 as well. I don’t think that Italy is an over-represented nation for international applicants (india and other asian countries usually are) so you could have an advantage over other internationals. Your GPA is good and if your ECs and essays are in order, you shouldn’t be at any more of a disadvantage than the other super-accomplished applicants. Cornell is still a reach, but only because it’s that way for everyone and admissions are hopelessly unpredictable.
