Cornell Class of 2020 Early Decision Discussion

@NICE8x I am hoping that my low income, URM, first generation hooks will pull me through.

Does anyone know approximately how many people applied to the college of human ecology this year? Im stressing.

@lillyyy we can never know how many applied until the school releases the stats. Don’t freak out. If you think that your essays and Ecs made you a good fit for the major in Human Ec, you shouldn’t worry. People apply to Human Ec under different majors and that is what the schools makes decisions on. Human Ec and Cals looks for the right fit for the major and I am sure that you wouldn’t have applied to the major in Human Ec if you didn’t think it was for you. So don’t worry and there is nothing you can do now anyways.

time honestly couldn’t go slower

@lillyyy what major are you going for? :slight_smile: I applied to PAM.

i don’t think i can wait another weeeek

Do you guys know if Linguistics is a popular major at Cornell?

@polyglot05 my freshman d is going to declare linguistics (probably) and computer science. She is in intro to linguistics this semester and loves it. It is a very small major. With that, though, you get lots of individualized attention.

ahh portals are so much more nerve-wracking instead of a flat out email… i’m going to be covering my eyes while the page loads

I think they use portals so there is less room for error. You can go online and read horror stories of students being emailed they were admitted when in fact they were not.

Also I was bored and read the ends of the Cornell 2019 and Cornell 2018 ED threads (not decision threads but threads like this one) where people posted if they were accepted or not.

Obviously if you are rejected you are less likely to come online and post it so the numbers are not very representative BUT the interesting thing was the relatively high number of deferrals.

Cornell 2019

Rejected: 12
Deferred: 13
Accepted: 40

Cornell 2018

Rejected: 13
Deferred: 18
Accepted: 37

@icybal99 I feel like my gpa and standardized testing scores are too low though…

i’ve read that cornell is a university with relatively high (compared to most other universities esp prestigious ones) # of acceptances of students that were deferred later in the RD round

@nakiri human development

@lillyyy scores are just one part of the application! They are looking for how well you suit the college and HD major so they will judge you holistically. Besides there isn’t much any of us can do now for ED results. Hang in there!

Does anyone know about how many humec students there are in the freshman class each year?

@lillyyy

Cornell Human Ecology Class of 2019- There are 200 females and 69 males (269 people)

The maximum amount of freshmen entering into Human Ecology in any given year over the last 10 years is 280

I hope being an AA male helps as a hook maybe :confused: I’m getting desperate at this point

You guys are awesome I get freaked out during the day and I love coming home to like 50 notifications and reading everything. Thanks everyone for keeping me sane throughout this process :x
