So as decisions have been officially been released, I thought it would be fitting to start a thread for those of us fortunate enough to be offered a transfer option.
Is it actually a guaranteed transfer option? It never said anything about it being 100%? They just said they’d contact us with the information.
Also don’t most Transfers get absolutely screwed over with Financial Aid Packages compared to Freshman???
I’m pretty excited! At least we weren’t outright rejected!
From what I read in the forum, someone said they got the same letter last year:
“Whoever got the transfer option by all means go through with it! I was offered the same thing last year (same letter and everything), and the whole process is very easy. They have a great staff at Transfer Admissions who are very helpful and full of information. The other letter comes in about a week or so. As long as you meet the criteria they give, depending on which college you applied to, your acceptance for the specified term is practically 99.999% guaranteed. Best of luck to all of you!”
@vlindo I’d love to know what criteria we have to meet is.
I think someone said 3.0 gpa for that one year.
also if there are any previous transfers here i’d like to know about there Financial Package
I’m going to call ILR tomorrow and ask about that. I’m pretty sure they want you to complete certain courses and have a certain GPA. @Leicisbest
Please Post on here after you do @vlindo
For everyone that was wondering about what the transfer option really means in the long run here you go.

This is for CALS
Main thing here is that you need to make a decision on whether you are going to transfer or not in July of this Year and than get the work done to be accepted.
I just copied and pasted this from another thread it’s more relevant here anyways…
My son received the transfer option to ILR a few years ago. The letter does not specifically use the term “guaranteed”. It’s a very simple process, but like many we were confused when he first received the letter. The student will easily transfer in the fall of sophomore year provided the required gpa is met and also required courses taken. My son decided he wanted to take the option, went to our local CC, took all the courses needed, and then some. The financial aid he received was very generous, as if he were a first year student (and very close to the calculator). He is currently a junior, thriving, very high gpa. Has many friends and is involved in many activities. He says it was the best decision of his life. He never doubted that he would take the option. Going to a CC was not ideal, but he knew what he was working towards and made the best of living at home. My advice is take the option if you want to attend. Is a delayed acceptance. If you can wait another year. Best of luck.
Thank you for your input @soxlover I am planning on going to my safety school for a year then transferring in to Cornell ILR. Did he tell the CC that he was transferring to Cornell as well?
I don’t think that ever came up in conversation. He was easily able to register for the classes he needed to take. Once the second semester was over, he just did not register for the fall. I believe by mid to end of March, he received a call from admissions with his official approval. From there, everything was extremely organized, from class registration, to housing, then move in day. It really is that easy. Just do well and take as many required courses as possible. I wish you well!
does anyone know what is “better” for ILR or SHA. a waitlist or a GT transfer? like what goes to the more qualified student, waitlist or GT transfer
GT
After being deferred and waiting for so long I think I’m okay with the GT. I’ve wanted to go forever and I got into my number two so I think I’ll take it and transfer after a year.
WL is a formal form of “acceptance” / Transfer Option still has contingencies
I got the GT offer yesterday too. I am 99% sure I am going to take them up on their offer next year. Cornell is my dream. My only worry is not having any friends since everyone else will have known each other for a year. However, through my research, we are able to be put in the upperclassman dorms, and they even offer the ability to be put with other transfer students. For my freshman year, I will be attending Arizona State University, through the Barretts honors program. I am very happy with my planned path. ASU for a year and then three years at Cornell sounds amazing to me. I feel blessed and honored that Cornell wants me…even if they dont want me for another year.
I feel the exact same way @gabrielamarie I’m sure all the other transfers will know each other fairly well considering we’re all in the same boat.
My son got this option too. He will be at Mizzou - Honors College next year. He pretty quickly said that he wants to seriously consider it. I think he also feels fortunate to have this option.
Anyone else thinking about going to the CC near Cornell for the first year? I may live in my brothers frat house at Cornell and attend classes at CC so the social transition isn’t too annoying come Soph year.
I plan on doing the same. I don’t know anyone at Cornell so I can’t do that but that sounds like a good option. I’m gonna power thru a year at my local CC and happily attend Cornell as a sophomore
