Cornell Class of 2020 Regular Decision Discussion Thread

How long is the informational interview post to be. Mine was through the phone and was 40 minutes.

Usually lasts between 30-40 min. according to the people I asked. Mine personally went for about an hour in person at a local Starbucks because we talked about an interesting topic for quite a while.

I thought Cornell didn’t have interviews for the College of Arts and Sciences…?

There are informal alumni interviews.

@glasshours I applied to CALS

@AddyB123 and @DAVE437 - Thanks! I was curious because I got an email to interview last night and totally wasn’t expecting it, haha

My son visited 2ce. The second time with an alumni led group for an overnight. Do you think they will want an interview anyway?

@glasshours, Correct, there are no required interviews for CAS. Cornell Alumni Ambassadors provide informational “interviews” only. You may not request one. If a Alumni Ambassador lives in your area, you MAY be contacted for an informational interview. This has no bearing on your admissions at all, as some areas of the country may not have any volunteers and other parts of the country may have enough, but have too many applicants to “interview” everyone. My daughter was contacted by an Alumni volunteer (via email) when she was an applicant but he never got back to her when she replied to him, so she never had her session. No big deal, she was accepted anyway.

The only schools that require an interview for admissions are the Hotel School and Architecture, Art and Planning.

If you do get contacted by an Alumni Volunteer, you should definitely take advantage of your time with him/her. But it is not an interview per se and has no bearing on your admission decision. If you don’t get contacted, no big deal either.

Spoke too soon. He just got asked to the informal session at Starbucks w an ILR alum.

Hey guys, I have a question about MidYear reports. Does Cornell want us to submit them through Naviance or Common App?

@crystalball13 Naviance should already be connected to Common App if your counselor added the required forms and teacher recommendations. So the counselor should be uploading the midyear report on Common App.

Hi! Did anyone get a notification about an alumni interview? I’ve applied to college of arts and science, and on their website it says interviews are not offered… Also other than online portal emails, did anyone get any other notifications or emails from the admission office? I’ve received online portal ID very recently… Hmm

Yeah, I applied to CALS on getting offered an interview

@freshlemon123 I got an “informal interview” soon after I applied to Cornell (she just emailed me- no request form or anything). She said that she doesn’t give Cornell a report or anything, she is just there to answer questions and talk about Cornell
It was kinda cool

That’s interesting. Does this mean interview is not important for admission decision-making? If the interviewer does not even give Cornell a report, what is the output of this interview?

If there are anyone (especially current students, parents, alumni) who has different feedback, please chime in.

I just googled their website and it looks like they do write a report that’s due on Feb 15th. https://caaan.admissions.cornell.edu/reptform.cfm

My alumni also mentioned writing a report back to the college in her email to me too.

Yeah…my interviewer was taking notes about me during my interview. I found that kind of strange if they weren’t going to be submitting any form of report.
