Cornell Class of 2021 Guaranteed Transfer Discussion Thread

I was not suggesting that Cornell is “illogical or incongruous”. I was saying that it would be illogical and incongruous to outright refuse an applicant admission who was wait listed and not give that applicant a GT when Cornell has awarded GTs at the same time it issued wait list status to some applicants having noted that GT’s were refused admission to the freshman class (and that wait list applicants were, by definition, still alive for admission to the freshman class although GT’s had been, as Cornell has stated, refused admission to the freshman class). Forest 2021 do you have personal knowledge of wait-listed ILR applicants whose wait-list status was converted to outright rejection?

@Ivycrawler That’s exactly what I was addressing in my comment. I disagree that a waitlisted applicant is entitled to GT on the basis that Cornell very likely has different motives for providing each option. I feel as if there are very different dynamics at play. It’s no question that different universities use their waitlists for a variety of reasons. Like I said, the waitlist appears to be used when yield is an issue, whereas the GT students are offered and encouraged to join the 2021 class, albeit a year later.

Either way, since none of us were given Fall 2017 admission from the beginning, we’re all in a less than convenient position.

On another note, has anyone submitted their Transfer Option Response form yet? I know it’s not due until May 15th, but every time I try to submit, it appears to not go through.

@tocollege182 - Mine went through just fine. I am applying to ILR.
I got a confirmation (auto-generated) email also.
Perhaps you can try a different browser or use the Incognito mode of Chrome to ensure no cookies are interfering with your submission.

@cricketfan Thank you! I just tried both of those, but haven’t gotten a confirmation email yet. I’ll wait for a bit, otherwise, I’ll email Hum Ec.

@tocollege182 - I have an academic question. Since you had applied ED, you would have researched this.
Do the universities give very poor financial aid to ED applicants? It makes logical sense - they have you in a binding contract and definition of FA includes loans. So technically a university can offer you a full FA with only loans.
It was this reason which kept from applying ED anywhere.
Is my information incorrect?

@cricketfan I couldn’t find a whole lot of “official” information, but from what I saw, the financial aid for ED applicants was the same for those accepted through RD. I can’t give you a concrete answer since I was deferred, but things seemed to be okay for those accepted. Online, it was the general consensus that since Cornell is need-based, those admitted through ED would have the same support as they would RD. You make a good point, though, about ED applicants being given FA with only loans. Personally, I wanted to (and still want) to attend regardless of the circumstances, so when I applied ED and found basic FA information, I decided I would worry about it later.

Does anyone have any comments about attending UCSB over UCSD??

UCSD is better.

@tocollege182 My husband and I both chose UCSB over UCSD. Very different schools and comes down to fit. I suggest visiting both while they’re in session. I’m a UCSB grad and happy to answer questions you may have. Good luck!

@Ivycrawler I’m not entirely sure about things specific to ILR. On one of the past threads I’ve seen waitlisted ILRs receive a TO, but I’m not sure about rejections. I would just check out the other old threads here on CC and read through them for any info.

@Ivycrawler This is a breakdown of how many transfers each college accepted in the past, granite the numbers will be different this year since Cornell received a record number of applications.

Does anyone know how many GTs are actually accepted after their freshman year? I got offered a GT but I’m skeptical of my actual chances of getting in outside of meeting all the qualifications. This may just be my ignorance about how GTs work, so clarification would be greatly appreciated.

Just remember there is a chance you will decide to not actually transfer to Cornell. DS was GT to ILR last year-he accepted it and last year at this time really thought it was great option. He is almost done freshman year and he is very happy at his current school and is not taking the GT. He had fairly high stats so was given many great opportunities as well as a lot (half tuition) of merit money. He can not imagine transferring. (FYI- his school put him down as a Cornell acceptance in Navience)

I was offered the TO and thinking of NU as well! What’s your major?

@arianay NU as in Northeastern? I’m a Health Science major there. How about you?

Does anyone already have almost enough AP credit to meet the transfer requirements?

I was wondering about that as well

Anyone going to SUNY Binghamton freshmen year?

@pink88 a lot of people are! check on Chatter!
