Cornell Class of 2021 Waitlist

@CUWL2021 sorry for bombarding you with questions, I’m super unfamiliar about WL, but do you email them aceepting/declining or call?

also, what time did they call? did they call your cellphone, your parents or home phone?

@cookieloverboy Do you mean accepting a spot on the waitlist or accepting a spot once offered admission from the waitlist? Initially, the waitlist letter has a URL that links to a form that you fill out indicating that you are interested in a spot on the waitlist. If chosen for a spot in the class from the waitlist, you will be contacted by the university. I was first called and then received an email asking for me to call them back. Based on that, I believe that they prefer for you to accept/decline over the phone rather than email. Sorry if that wasn’t very helpful, I was a little confused about what you were asking.

@idekidc Cellphone, but if I remember correctly, I believe that was the number I provided on the waitlist reply form, so it’s probably just based on that. It was around midday.

When my kid got off the WL, they called her and her GC. They wanted commitment right away, but gave her additional 2 days (weekend) to decide.

When schools go to their WL they want to get it done as fast as possible (because when they are finished then they could go on their summer vacation). That’s why I have advised students over the years to let their WL schools know they are very interested and would likely accept if a spot was offered. It is also helpful to call to let them know your interest when they are going to their WL. It would move you to the top of list.

For those who get off waitlist in CAS, what major are you applying? thanks

@oldfort I already emailed them a LOCI 3 weeks ago stating that I would go if admitted and another note May 1st again saying that it is my top choice and would go if admitted. Yesterday, I called the HumEc admissions office asking them if they would go to their waitlists - i said my name, but didn’t reiterate what I said in my emails. Do you think I should call them Tuesday and say that Cornell IS my top choice and I would go if admitted or do my emails suffice?

@applestar828 English

I got in too!! Do you know what we do about housing? (since the deadline is today). Are we just going in random.

@roch123 How and when did you find out?

@roch123 I was wondering about housing too since it actually says on the website if request not submitted by today housing not guaranteed. I would think that does not pertain to waitlisted kids who are just learning now they have a spot. However, if it does that creates a serious wrinkle for my son…My guess is they have a separate process for kids they let in late, but I don’t know for sure…

@idekidc - I am sure they got your message. You could also have your GC call too.

WL students will get housing. My kid didn’t get a single as requested, but they were able to find a single before the school started.

@brandonbko I found out on Friday

@Beyondhope That’s what I was thinking. Maybe we can talk to/choose between waitlist applicants. If not I don’t mind going in random, I just hope we get a choice when it comes to which hall.

@HBeanz I just got off the waitlist for A&S too

@oldfort Thanks. Reassuring to know he will definitely get housing!

@ idekidc Good suggestion from @oldfort, my son’s GC called. Honestly don’t know if it helped, but it certainly didn’t hurt. His GC called on Monday and he was taken off the waitlist on Tuesday night. On the other hand, she called Georgetown as well (he was waitlisted there too) and nothing, they didn’t even confirm receiving my son’s LOCI…IMHO if school is definitely going to waitlist, then I think it is helpful to try and be top of mind at the school without being too aggressive - a couple of LOCI with updates on achievements, GC call if possible, another one or two recommendations, a personal call etc…

@rjmollaev13 thank you for the info! i guess bye bye cornell

@Beyondhope @oldfort thanks for the help! I told my GC to call, but she told me she wmailed them because it’s better if it is documented. Is that alright?

Has anybody else still not heard back from CALS? I sent my LOCI around the third week of April and got a reply that they received it then but nothing since. I really just want closure!

@idekidc That should be fine if your GC sends email instead of a call, important thing is that your GC advocates for you and that you are firmly in the mind of the regional admissions counselor at Cornell. Good luck to you, I hope it works out.
