Also, how does the watlist work? Do they give primarily consideration to people who gave demonstrated interest at Cornell?
@barackhussein I only sent 1 LOCI and it was in the last week of May. @idekidc I can only speculate as to the role demonstrated interest plays, but I can say that I did not do anything beyond the typical LOCI. I suspect (though I can’t be certain) that demonstrated interest isn’t a primary factor.
I am curious what you were told — did you receive a call asking if you would accept a spot off the waitlist? Did they ask you to confirm in writing (email)? Once this was done did you receive information that you would be sent a link via email today (two days later) with the offer followed by a package in the mail? I am probably being neurotic but will feel better about this once my son receives the actual offer…Did you get one yet?
I can add if this helpful - my son sent a LOCI about 2 or 3 weeks ago. He followed up with another one last week and his guidance counselor called to advocate on his behalf. I have no idea if any of this helped or not, but I gather it didn’t hurt…
@Beyondhope Yes, the purpose of the call was to offer a spot off the waitlist. They did not ask me to confirm via email. I was told that I would receive a portal update on Monday and that a physical package would be sent the following day as well as financial award information. As of now I have not received the official offer, just the promise that it would be coming on Monday.
So for those accepted off the waitlist, did you guys receive an email first? Or did you receive a call first?
Call first.
@CUWL2021 Thank you for sharing. Son just told me he received an email today telling him there were delays in system and he would receive the portal update on Monday, but the paper copy went out today…
@ AznDude525 Yes, my son received a call first too.
@Beyondhope did he apply to cas?
@Mengda Oh wow… I applied for Engineering and also got waitlisted. But I have yet to receive any email from them. Do you mind screenshotting the email for confirmation? If it is true, then I would not get my hopes up and focus on my exams! Thank you!
@kcathalia The Engineering school’s yield was met. They released everybody off their waitlist.
My S is waitlisted for engineering, but did not get any email saying that it is full!!
Really…strange that my S did not get any email saying so…atleast not as of now.
@delsp1234 Thank you for your continued interest in Cornell Engineering. I wanted to provide you with information about the waitlist for the College of Engineering. As of May 3, 2017, the College of Engineering has met its enrollment goal for the Class of 2021. Unfortunately, this means that we will not be able to make offers of admission to any of our waitlisted candidates. You will receive official notification of this news from Cornell University within the next several days. While I realize that this is likely disappointing news for you, I wanted to make you aware of the situation so that you can continue forward with your plans at another college or university. I have no doubt that no matter where you choose to enroll you will be successful and I wish you the best as you complete your senior year.
Sincerely,
Scott M. Campbell
Director, Engineering Admissions
This was posted on May 3rd on Cornell’s Engineering website.
oh…ok…so this was not an email, but something posted on their website. Thank you.
sorry I might have confused things regarding an email. The email was sent to my son after he received a call asking him whether he would accept a spot off the waitlist. It was to update him that the portal with his offer would be sent on Monday instead of this past Friday…He is not an engineering major…Each school has different needs and depending on the school some may or may not be going to the waitlist…apparently engineering definitely is not. I am sure if you were on Cornell’s engineering waitlist you have another great option of a school to attend, good luck to you.
@CUWL2021 @HBeanz Hey, did they tell you guys when you have to choose/deposit by? Is there a specific date (like august)?
@cookieloverboy I was told 5 days after I receive the physical acceptance
@CUWL2021 thats crazy! you only have less than a week to make the decision??
@cookieloverboy --I think some schools allow less time to accept a WL offer. At this point, schools want the process complete, so if a student does not intend to accept the WL offer, the school wants to move on to the next student who does.
