To each of you-please do your authentic research into the climate and culture of any university to which you apply (PARTICULARLY BINDING ED). Do your homework and learn about the community to which you may be joining. Collaborative? Competitive? Welcoming? Angsty? Rigorous? Agonizingly rigorous? Ask about the mental health issues facing the campus as a whole. Please think long and hard before you apply binding anywhere until you have spoken to YOUNG alumni who can accurately speak to today’s climate at respective colleges. Please think about what you want out of your college experience, well above-and-beyond brand name (which may come at a dear cost if you are attending just for the name). You can get a better glimpse into the culture of a university if you genuinely ask current students, or recent graduates, if they are pleased or regret their choice, and why. As seemingly silly as it sounds, ask current students if they are happy/content more days than not. Are they stressed out more days than not? If so, ask if they are stressed to the point of burning out. Are they energized by their time there, or are they overwhelmed by sustained competition and load? Older alumni of a university, simply due to changes that naturally occur over time, can’t speak as accurately to today’s climate. Make sure you know what the weather entails. If you have not first-hand experienced it, ask what it is like to go without sun for weeks on end. Know about the nature of upperclassmen housing and the competition in getting housing over a year in advance due to lack of space. These are issues many universities face, and most are working to rectify such issues at some point in the future in their short & long range plans. University “brand names” are alluring, and often legitimately worth the costs, but please go in as well-informed as you possibly can.
Does anyone know how many applications SHA gets ED?
Does anyone know the Cornell SHA interview questions? What to expect? and what to wear?
Change me!

Essays and LORs:
Common App: 8.5-9/10. I am writing about what I learned about myself while developing my first iOS app.
Rec #1: 10/10 – nuclear physics teacher. We have a great relationship, and he already told me that my rec will be excellent. I am also conducting an independent study on quantum computing with him.
Rec #2: 9/10 – pre-calc teacher. He is the head of the math department, and we got along very well last year.
Rec #3 11/10 – science research mentor. She LOVES me. Her recommendation will be stellar, and she REALLY wants me to attend Cornell. She is tenured at Weill Cornell, and her son is currently enrolled as an undergraduate.
College Counselor Rec: 9.5/10. I have been extremely proactive throughout the entire college process, and she really seems to like me.
Supplemental essay: 10/10. I’m discussing my work at Weill Cornell and how its intra and interdisciplinary collaborative environment has allowed me to thrive. Specifically, I am discussing my experience as presenter at Cornell’s Immersive Media in Medicine Symposium. One of my mentor’s close colleagues runs the Virtual Embodiment Lab at Cornell, and I am mentioning how I would be able to continue my research and maintain contact with my current mentor. I am also discussing how I used the Cornell Sun’s iOS application to help me develop my school’s newspaper app.
Hello guys,
Does Cornell accepts SAT subject tests score taken at Nov 2 ?
If the deadline says 11/01/19, does that mean the last day to submit is Nov 1st, or does it have to be in before Nov 1st? I feel like general rule is Nov 1st is the last day to submit, but I’ve been hearing different things, so I just wanted more clarification.

How does (where to specify) that one does not need financial aid and would pay the tuition by self if offered admission?
Does it increase the chance of getting ED decisions if no aid is requested?
thanks,
Cornell is need blind for US citizens.
this thread is even more inactive than the class of 2023 ed that thought theirs was inactive compared to prior years ahh!
Anyone here do ED for ILR?
Yes we need to get more people onto this thread, I know a million people are applying ED!
Does Cornell publish how many applications they rec’d for ED this year? thanks,
Hello everyone! I have a question. Does Cornell take updates in the application? My high school hockey tryouts are in a few days and I would like to notify them if I make the team because I only started playing junior year (I applied ED). Also, I left out a major accomplishment for hockey on my Common App and am kind of freaking out about it. If they take updates, do you think I can tell them about this as well?
I think (like with any college) you can email updates to their admissions email, but use it sparingly and only for things that will legitimately affect your application (or their review of it)
Interesting to see. Just completed Cornell ED for our son, electrical engineering (also EA for MIT & Caltech); other lead option is/was Olin, but they don’t have any early options.
Essentially perfect scores (1600 SAT, >98 unweighted grades with nothing lower than a 95 ever, 9 (?) AP classes I think with 5s on the 4 taken last year, 800s on SAT Math 2 and Chem). Reasonably well-rounded: varsity athlete in two sports and also club ultimate frisbee; lead cellist in top school orchestra; odyssey of the mind world finalist. Perhaps slightly lacking in a focus on service, but some stuff there also. Guessing that it’s about a 30% chance for the ED; if not then trying to be sure to frame it as ‘now you have the chance for wider options’ but he’s definitely hoping for Cornell. Thoughts welcome.
Good luck, all!
for Cornell ED, after submitted the Comm apps, is that needed to submit the middle year transcript before the ED decision?
For ED you may submit first quarter report before the results. Middle year report might not be out by result day. (Dec 10 / Dec 15).
However admitted students are required to submit midyear and end of year reports.
From Cornell website:
Midyear Report - Submit the Midyear Report as soon after the application deadline as possible. We strongly encourage guidance counselors to submit this online too, so we can process your application faster. We understand that some students with schools on trimesters may not have any new grade information to report at the time of submission, and therefore do not need to send a Midyear Report.
In the Common App, there is a question, if you are applying for Fin Aid. You can answer No there.
Some view not needing FA can be a hook, but there are varying opinions on this.
If you have funds for full-pay, then it’s best to not check the FA box on the App
