Cornell class of 2024 Transfer Option

according to human ecology, it specifically states “this is not a guarantee of admissions” even if all requirements are met.

from CHE
Candidates who satisfy the coursework, application, and process requirements outlined below are given preference and priority in the transfer selection process.

This is not an offer of admission or a guarantee of transfer admission. This offer is applicable only to the College of Human Ecology. The TO is available for one calendar year, meaning that you can apply as a Transfer Option candidate for the fall of your sophomore year only. Students can apply for the fall of their junior year is so inclined through the regular transfer process.

I think it says that for all of the schools, but based on previous years’ forums it seems to be a pretty high chance of getting in across all schools

Any other Hotel School/SHA people that received the Transfer Option?

@hyto760 I did receive the TO for SHA! Dm me on Reddit (pr2024)

am I the only person who is not excited about the TO?

My DD is not at all excited either! She applied to CALS ED, 34 ACT, OOS (California), recruited for rowing by MIT but absolutely loved Cornell. I’m a Cornell Law alum. Crushing to get TO instead of acceptance. Looks like she’ll be going to a UC.

Same, I ED to CHE. loved it, but not willing to put my life on “hold” for a what if next year. Especially that it is not a GTO. I have heard some are rejected the following year. The wording of the TO leads you to realize it is not a sure thing at all. And I don’t want a school that I may not be attending to choose my curriculum in freshman year.

Look at it like this, you’ll save one year in tuition by going to a local college where you can easily get a high GPA in order to fulfill the TO requirements and you won’t be as stressed your first year compared to if you were studying at Cornell. As a person from low income family, I am blessed that Cornell offered me the TO bc now I won’t have as much debt, and I’m able to stay with my family and friends for another year before leaving to Cornell (especially due to the Corona stuff going on right now I haven’t been able to see my friends in about a month)

Do you feel that since it’s not a guarantee…if they turn you down, you will be stuck at a college that you don’t want to be at?

No, but only because I’m not only applying to Cornell for transfer. I’m going to apply to a couple other schools that I know will admit me and one thats a reach just so I won’t be left with no options if Cornell does decide to reject me anyways. However, after reading many blogs of people talking about their experience transferring into Cornell through TO I would say u have a 90-100% chance of getting admitted as long as you take the classes that ur school tells u to take and have at least the minimum GPA required. They don’t straight up tell us it’s “guaranteed” bc u have to fulfill the requirements first that’s all.

Has anyone received communication from Cornell/the school they applied to about TO? My portal says I’ll “receive a message within the next few days with information…”. The only info I got was through Google searches lol

I got an email from CALS a day after decisions came out abt TO

Hmmm…I never got a status update email or an email about TO for ILR

Have you checked your spam/junk folder? I think different colleges emailed at different times. I got one in the morning, and my classmate got one from Human Ec in the afternoon on the same day, Is it possible that ILR didn’t send them out, yet?

Just got the email right now! Thanks for your help though

Of course

I got the CALS TO after being on the waitlist- and am now happy as a sophomore at Cornell! PM me with any questions  I’m also an ambassador and work closely with undergraduate admissions.

I totally understand the concern, but im so glad I had the experience of attending two universities and would never trade the TO to enter cornell as a freshman, given all I gained from my first year institution. PM me for advice

Anyone get the email from SHA yet?
