@queen67
Hello, how are you? My appologies for not responding soon enough, but now I will give you an overview! Thank you!
Just like the other thread, were I chanced @student2021 , I’m going to provide you the important links to the Cornell University’s CALS website, and then I will head to giving you the chance.
Here is the link to the academics section of Cornell University’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences:
http://cals.cornell.edu/academics
You can click on the top-left to “Schools, Departments & Majors” to help with you search.
After you have researched the academics of CALS, and have an idea of what you want to do for your undergraduate years, you can then focus on preparing for the admissions to Cornell University’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
Here is the link to the admissions section of Cornell University’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences:
http://admissions.cals.cornell.edu/
You can click on the top-right to all three links to “The Academic Experience,” which basically explains the background on the academics at CALS; “Before You Apply,” which explains what you should do to prepare before applying to CALS; “How to Apply,” which will explain how to apply to CALS in an appropriate manner.
Now to analyze your chance… (What can you do to improve your chances):
In terms of academics… I would continue to keep up with your GPA, and if you can slightly increase your GPA to meet the range. Continue to take challenging courses that show academic growth, and preparation for college courses. Also, if you can please tell me the coursework that you are taking currently, as that will be helpful in evaluating you further? You’re ACT is excellent, as it is right in the 25th/75th percentile. Most specifically, your ACT score, 34 (is that the score you got?) will put you at the top 75th percentile, so you don’t have to worry about re-taking the test. Also, may I ask, did you take the optional writing section for the ACT? Overall, your doing an wonderful job, but there is room for improvement, which I know you can do.
In terms of extracurricular activities… Like I said previously, don’t flood yourself with countless activities, rather stick to a few, and show your commitment towards them, and how they enhanced your ultimate experience in secondary education. You seem to be very involved, and engaged in your activities. To make it even stronger, mention how you extracurricular helped encourage you to seek an education for CALS. Also, I would not list all those activities under the application, but a few, specifically, three or less; the ones you were most committed to, and that could provide value for your overall character (you)! After all, they prefer quality over quantity. Lastly, do briefly mention the awards that you have received based on your extracurricular activities, as that will further strengthen your college application. For the most part, you seem to be doing a good job, as you are getting involved in school. Just make sure to highlight those key interests in the college application.
Other information in regard, make sure you start early and well-craft your personal essays, for they are an integral part of college admissions, and can potentially help you stand out. Proofread your essays, ask for appropriate help with teachers and close acquaintances, and even make multiple copies of that version, etc., so that you could “perfect” those essays.
When choosing to write those letters of recommendation, make sure you ask teachers, who not only could write about your academic interests, but you as a person. It’s not about getting an A in that teacher’s class, but also finding a connection with that teacher.
Final thoughts… Most importantly show FIT and your ultimate dedication to study CALS, which these should also help increase your chances, as they mark on those features.
FINAL VERDICT: Low-reach. Please provide me more information, to the things that I have asked for above, so that I could provide you additional feedback. Thank you!
You can do so much to increase your chances. I wish you well with your studies, and continue to keep up the good work.
Hope this helps! Let me know if you need help with anything else.
Thank you for your time!
