Local volunteer program Grades 9-10, (1 hour/week) that helps with elementary/middle school events such as open house day, school dances, face painting, and also to clean up/organize for special events at libraries. ,
Therapeutic Riding Center, Grade 10-11, (2 hours/week) – an organization that uses horseback riding to help children with disabilities to use their muscle and get some workout. I volunteered as a side walker, where I would hold on to and support the child while he/she was on horseback and help them balance. I also volunteered as a leader where I lead the horse and follow the coach’s instructions.
Local hospital - Grade 10 (2hours/week) as reception

Your stats are on the low end for Cornell, both with GPA and standardized tests. Be sure to have match and safeties on your list as Cornell is a reach for everyone.

I do realize my GPA is on the lower end, and am trying hard to improve it this trimester and will also work hard at the beginning of senior. I think I still have a chance to get a higher standardized test score. Thank you for your reply!

Agreed with @momofsenior1. Your stat on GPA and SAT is on a low end. My D stat was a bit higher and she was accepted ED for a humanity major.

You are going for physics/premed. Tons of excellent applicants you are competing with. Do your best but you need to have other match colleges on your list, too.

Remember if you are applying ED, which you should because the odds are slightly better, they wont see your senior year grades until after the fact.

I’m just being honest, your chances are pretty low. Your stats just aren’t up to Cornell’s standards. I’m not saying you’re not smart enough, but is all they see as far as academic capabilities is stats, and yours just aren’t up there. Go ahead and apply ED and that’s great if you get in. If you end up somewhere you don’t want to be and end up not liking it, you can always transfer. As far as getting into Cornell from easiest to hardest, I would say: ED, transfer, RD. The transfer rate is kind of high (compared to its peers) because of the transfer program they offer to some lucky rejectees. It’s around 20%, but I would say, at most, half of the transfers are from the transfer program so even 10% is better than Harvard 1%-2% for transfers (lol). I just had a rough go at admissions for the class of 2022, but I got back up and made a transfer plan in case I end up wanting to transfer. Message me with an questions you might have.

While your chances for Cornell aren’t super realistic, still aplly ED if you for sure want to go because there’s always a chance. Make sure you have matches and safeties and remember through out this process, you can always try again next year (and even the next).

What’s your rank, by the way? If your school ranks and this puts you in top 10% then you do have a more realistic shot. Does your school use Naviance? Check that. What does your counselor say?

For SAT IIs, aim for a 750+ to be competitive

@Ashtash Thank you for your input and being honest with me! I’m currently visiting Cornell and getting close to making my decision about ED. From just doing research, I liked it a lot, but I think visiting the campus and being in tours made me realize that about half of my “love” for Cornell came from the fact that it’s an Ivy league school, and that my parents had always put it “up there” for me. As you mentioned, I could apply ED and might get lucky and get in, but the more I research on other schools the less I think Cornell is a good fit for me. For example, I also really like Georgia Tech and Barnard College.

Unfortunately, my school doesn’t offer class rank. When I last talked to my counselor that I really like Cornell and might apply ED, she didn’t seem to really deny the thought, I felt like she was “passively acknowledging” it? I don’t know if that makes sense lol.

If you aren’t 100% sure, definitely don’t apply ED.
