Cornell ED Class of 2022 Discussion Thread

Hey guys, question: Do you think it will hurt me that I come from a massive public school (largest in the state) that no one has ever heard of? I mean, our averages aren’t very good at all and our referendums never pass, so students don’t have a lot of academic opportunities. There are 500 kids in my class (I think I’m number 3 right now), and our average ACT score is like a 22. No one that I know of from my school has ever gotten into Cornell or even applied (except for my sister, who was offered a guaranteed transfer that she didn’t end up taking). We both have 34 ACTs, but her GPA was a 3.8, and mine’s a 4.2. It’s entirely possible that I’m overanalyzing this completely, but I wouldn’t mind if someone else would follow me down this rabbit hole!

I’m in the same boat as you almost! I would say it actually helps us considering it would be a great opportunity for them to grow alumni network by including more unknown schools. What state are you located? I am in Ohio, and Ohio is in generally a less competitive geographic area so that helps, according to a CAS admissions officer I have been close with. @Bella2018

@Bella2018 Actually, you are in a good place. Being top of your class at a High School with limited opportunities and low ACT sores boosts your chaces. They dont need to be familiar with the school. They recieved your schools profile so they will see. It shows that you worked really hard to get a 34 ACT on your own, regardless of your HS weak profile. Which college in Cornell?

@lrandolph @Scorpion2000 I’m coming from Minnesota, and I applied to CALS! Thank you both for making me feel better, because I asked my college and careers counselor what she thought my chances were and she thought I was talking about the Cornell in Iowa, so that wasn’t super encouraging.

@Bella2018 I actually go to a very competitive public HS and my school does not rank because students do way above US average. More than half of senior class applies to Cornell

@Scorpion2000 Wow okay, that’s interesting. I was mainly worried because my sister was told by an alumnus from Duke that she wouldn’t get in at Duke (she didn’t) because my high school is a “question mark” and that other schools in the area have better track records with sending students that will ultimately be successful. And the same guy told her that she was the best candidate he’d seen in 20 years. I didn’t know if this is just the speculation of one alumni, or if it actually meant something.

@lrandolph I’m from Ohio as well. Don’t know anyone else who ED’d to Cornell from my school.

Exactly, and I feel you would stand out. They wont punish you for having to go to this HS, instead appreciate you did so well in such environment. I was told AO want to admit, not look for reeasons to reject. If youcomplimented this with fit essay and good recomendations… should be in good shape☺️

HEY FAM DECEMBER 11 IS RAPIDLY APPROACHING BEST OF LUCK EVERYONE WE ARE IN THIS TOGETHER yall amazing

@Scorpion2000 Thank you! I guess we’ll see in a week!

Any other future mechanical engineers out there?!

Any HE PAM majors?

does cornell accept around the same number of people ED each year regardless of how many apply?

It would make sense, considering they usually fill up around 40% of their class in ED.

Any developmental sociology majors applying to CALS?

I heard Animal Science is one of the most competitive majors in CALS, does anyone have thoughts about it?

@rapscallion same boat! No one that I know of, even in past classes, has ever even applied to Cornell. Personally I think it’s a plus for us.

Did people get contacted by 2 different alumns? I just read on the HE ED thread that someone got contacted by 2 alumns… i only have been contacted by my caaan person

OOF Cornell Financial Aid found discrepancies in my financial aid things. My parents did the financial aid stuff so I hope they didn’t make legitimate mistakes, because if they did, I’m screwed.

I got interviewed by two people
