Cornell Fall 2018 Transfer Thread

@bzheng5587 How did you make time to do all of that lol… Everyone’s stats are so amazing

@narinra Hey, I’ve been following this thread, but I’m brand new here. I applied as well, but I haven’t heard back yet.

@CHEtransfer what major have u applied to?? I’m so nervous ah

@narinina human development. And Ik, me too! My application was sent for review last Tuesday so idk when I’ll hear back.

@CHEtransfer how do you know if your application is sent for review?

@CHEtransfer oh mine got sent for review last week too! It’ll prolly be another week or 2 before we hear from them I guess.

@parkcentral When you check your application status portal it’ll say on the bottom that the materials have been forwarded for review.

Hmmm, my app said it was sent for review two weeks ago but the midterm report still isn’t checked off… and I submitted it through the official online form

My application has been checked off for over two months, but still don’t have a response.
Just be patient guys.

Has anyone received a decision from ILR?

Has anyone got in that did badly their senior year of high school? I’m so scared because I have a 4.0 now but because of a really complex situation in my life I didn’t do that well during my last semester of senior year (and no not because of senioritis! I mention it in my personal essay).

@liketb12 I heard that once you are a transfer, your performance at your current school matters the most as that is where you are standing rn. People do improve over time and I am sure the admissions team is aware of that.

I did poorly at my previous college (the one before my current one). My GPA was around 3.2. It was a Dental School in Thailand and the grading system was different. Grade A was secured for 5 students who ranked top 5/120. The rest are B+ and below. C+ was the average. Not to mention that every students there were all smart as only 120 out of 5000 students are accepted each year. Acceptances were decided on the university’s very own entrance exam (Bio, chem, calc based physics, math, english, social, and thai), followed by the major’s aptitude test (students were either assigned to carve a piece of soap into a molar tooth, carve a chalk into an incisor, or melt a wax into a molar), ECs, and interviews. The credit system was also different as many difficult classes were only 2 credits (idk why T_T).

But yeah, I don’t think it matters.

Anyone applying for a mechanical engineering?

@Ramiobvam
I have, my application was sent for review some while ago. I don’t think we’re going to find out for several weeks. Mind sharing your stats?

Same story here. Top 40 private school sophomore. Get straight A in transcript and mid-term report. 1.5 yrs research experience, secondary author of a paper. Apply to CALS biological science, rejected. I am crying.

@thatsnotgood How?? I’m sorry

@thatsnotgood wow. your stats sound very impressive! I wonder how Cornell review applications, and whether or not they review them in order. Some of the people who received their decisions today actually had their application sent for review later than some of the people here who are still waiting for the decision.

Anyways, with your strong stats, I am sure you will get into a good school! Good luck!

@Boroboro Thanks for your kind words. I see someone else posting the same story for CALS. Today seems like a bad day for CALS applicants, even those with strong stats. I only apply to Rice and Cornell, those are my dream school in high school. I could graduate from my current institute in my third year. Maybe due to the GTs in this wave.

@thatsnotgood I also applied to RICE!!!

@chemloverr Honestly I have no idea. Feel really bad.
