My daughter has applied ED to Cornell. I have completed all the financial aid forms and the FAFSA says that our EFC is $26,400. We have an employer sponsored scholarship amount equal to about $24,500. It is not a cash benefit, it is available if you are admitted to a university to be used toward tuition only. Does anyone know if Cornell will take the scholarship amount off the top and then consider we owe the EFC amount after that or if they take it from our contribution amount. How this is handled will make a big difference for us as far as what college would cost. In some ways if they do it off the top it almost doesn't help up at all since they they say they do 100% of demonstrated need. This scholarship benefit is one of the "deferred Compensation" type benefits at my husbands university. They will pay 70% of their tuition if the student goes their or the equivalent at another university.
