I am a student at Cornell University trying to decide between double majoring in NES or GOV (along with Econ). Those of you who are in either major, can you give some information about the difficulty of the majors?
I’m a government major — it certainly isn’t a difficult major to complete, and a lot of people double major in gov and econ, so it’s doable. The major is pretty flexible to fit your own interests so the actual requirements are pretty relaxed. I can answer any specific questions you have about it!
I was just wondering if the readings are doable. Like how many readings per day do you usually get assigned and also do you have any classes that you would recommend?
It’s a lot of reading, but you learn which ones are critical and should be prioritized vs. which ones you can skim (or honestly skip altogether). It also depends on the classes; some have much more reading than others. I’m in two government courses this semester and one has maybe 50ish pages a week and the other one has hundreds.
I commented on your other post about classes, but to reiterate, American Political Campaigns (GOVT 3082) is great. I don’t know anyone who took that and didn’t love it. The other ones will probably be more subjective based on your interests and preferred teaching style.
