got accepted at both places. which one?

Cornell just started a hardcore China major called CAPS that involves serious study both in Ithaca and China. Duke has no such thing and Cornell certainly has a more prominent China profile (Taiwan's past president was a Cornell alum).

There, now I've repented for all my cornell-bashing sins

Go Blue Devils.

I'd go Duke. Just because I like smaller schools.

IB.

Smaller doesn't mean better. And they're both damn big anyway.

what about economics?

Duke Econ is in the middle of a big hiring search I believe. That process will determine what the department will become. Cornell's econ group is well-established but heavily weighted towards mathematical theory which you may or may not prefer.
