Cornell Or WashU? Please give your input

Hello All,

Good evening. We live in suburbs of Chicago, IL and my son is very much interested medicine and he has been accepted into many colleges. But, we have been debating on the following. Please help us with your input.

Cornell - Ithaca, NY

WashU - St. Louis, MO

Northwestern, Evanston, IL

Cornell has offered him a grant of $ 4, 578 + Alternative loan estimate-4 (I a not sure how this loan work???) of $ 7, 400 and Employment yearning; Acad Yr-4: $ 1800. (Total of $13, 778) leaving parents’ contribution of about $30, 600 and Student Contribution of $2250 (total – $ 32, 850)

Whereas WashU has offered him Eliot Scholarship of $10,000, Fed work-study/campus job - $2000, Fed Perkins loan (Not sure how it works??) $2000 and Stafford loan, subsidized - $3,500 - leaving parents’ contribution of about $35,000

And Northwestern University has offered about $11,000 scholarship, leaving parent’s contribution of $40,000.

All these schools seem to be around same ranking nation wide. We have been debating on this for a while and would like to ask our friends to throw some light so that it would help us to decide.

Thanks
IL Dad

Cornell is Ivy League school with state "endowed" (haha) schools (SUNY insergents) , Northwestern is famous b/c of a cerial brand (Kellogg School of Business), and WashU is a premed haven for bio greeks...pick wisely you cant go wrong

i also find it amusing how you let complete strangers decise your finacnail/educational future. you choose based on the repuation/prestige/overall education and if you think they are all the same then go with the cheaper or geogrphically closer option

This should be in the Cornell, Washu, and or Northwestern forums.
