Cornell RD Class of 2023 Discussion Thread

@nnmmbb For engineering, about 50-100 at most. Mostly 50ish.

Very few school specific admits get one.

D received Diversity acceptance letter today. She’s visiting Vanderbilt now and can’t even concentrate. Over the moon. Congrats to all. This is all so overwhelming and exciting.

@TheGuy1 thanks! are there stats anywhere? i’m still so shook!!

@nnmmbb Nope. THey dont release LL stats. Its confidential.

But they release how many overall LL’s they send, and splitting it up by school (as its cornell) its mostly 50 or less LL’s.

Does anyone know if or when ILR releases likely letters.

So the decisions are out? Haven’t received any means rejection then I guess. Congrats to all.

female engineers who didn’t receive a likely letter still got a chance right?

Does getting a likely letter mean you got in? Like for sure? I mean or says “you will be offered admission to Cornell” in bold but like I’m confused and in denial

@Donnaduck yeah it means you got in for sure

Which specific schools send out likely letters?

DD (Biochemistry in CALS) received likely letter. Says packet is in the mail. So excited for her!

does anyone know if any likely letters will be out after today? or is today the only opportunity to receive them (especially for humec, DEA)

@guderu There maybe LLs coming as late as a week before dec’s. Then again, only 5%of admits get them. SO CHILL.

Does AAP do likely letters?

@18butterflies All colleges in Cornell U do it.

Hi ya’ll so I am an international student seeking for fin aid. I don’t wanna sound petty or anything but like I received the email “Cornell University International Financial Aid Request” asking for additional items along with my passport, which they asked me to submit before March, 15. Does this mean anything? like any consideration or sth?

Very hopeful sign.

@Kiyo123 Yeah. THey’re highly regarding you, but decisions dont set in till a few days before Ivy Day.

It doesnt mean you’re definitely in yet, but as of now, this is a definite sign that youre not out.

It could go either way on Ivy Day.

This comes with the assumption that you didnt/wasnt able to send the related FinAid Docs beforehand, as the committee doesnt contact everyone who eventually gets in and has applied for FinAid about this message.

Good luck.

@TheGuy1 ohh okayy. Thanks for the reply! Gives rise to a glimmer of hope but won’t get my hopes too high!!

@Kiyo123 based on what I learned after following the Cornell RD Class of 2021 for my daughter, those who were asked by the Financial Aid for additional documents starting a month after the January 2 deadline were already accepted. The Cornell Financial Aid asked my daughter for additional documents and she was eventually accepted. I do not know if this applies to international applicants but I presume it applies too. The Admission Committee and the Financial Aid are independent of each other. The “need aware” policy that guides the Admission Committee in the admission of international applicants just means that you have been accepted despite the fact that you are asking for Financial Aid. The Admission Committee does not ask for financial aid documents because they follow the “need blind” policy. The assumption that the Admission Committee is asking for financial aid documents sounds very illogical. The Cornell Financial Aid who communicated with you has nothing to do with Admission decision and you are being asked for the documents for the financial award. Furthermore, the deadline given to you is March 15, just two weeks before the Ivy Day and clearly, the document request has nothing to do with the Admission Committee decision anymore. The likely letters and the diversity letters are being sent by March 15 and by this date, all the colleges have finalized the decision. There is a high chance that you have been accepted and the only reason why you will not be accepted in the Ivy day has something to do with the available fund. Remember also that as an international applicant asking for financial aid, you could be competing with a fellow applicant from your country asking also for financial aid. Nonetheless, I presume you will receive a positive notification in the Ivy Day. Good luck.
