Cornell Rejected Students. It feels bad...

Hey everybody.

I know it is unlikely to ask this question but how did you feel when you saw that you got rejected?

I will share mine. I really thought I had a chance of getting into Cornell's Engineering school. Unfortunately I was rejected. I was shocked but I was also calm. I guess its because I have been rejected by 5 other schools: Stanford, Rice, Pomona, Harvey Mudd and UCLA. I got into Cal, USC, Oxy, SD, SB, and I. Preety disappointed that I got rejected from the more prestigeous schools. It is a real heartbreaker.

My immediate after thought is what I have done wrong in my Common App. Should I not have applied to an alternative school? Would I have gotten in if I am a female since the acceptance rate is near 40%? I guess my defense mechanism is denial. But eventually we all conquer such temprorary feelings.

Anyways, good luck to everybody!

I feel your pain but hey u noe wat I did 2 get of my mine I went to the gym beside many people warn me that the college of arts and science was competative this year hey there is always next year.

Are you in the East Coast? I have no even visited Cornell yet...

I got waitlisted, i know its not THAT bad but it feels like crap because most of my unis have waitlisted me!!

wow, Cal is still a school to be proud of! damn, i wish i got in there, i got into UCLA though, will most likely attend WashU.

hey i got turned down to ucla and cal so dont feel bad i dont know what i would have done if i would have gotten into cal and cornell i would cry at the decision

cal is awesome, dont feel bad, dude

aww don't feel bad. i got rejected to. from cornell, columbia, gtown, and wellesley. but i got into emory. :D

Rejection always sucks. At least you have a well-reputed option.

Cornell and Johns Hopkins rejected me.
Columbia and Dartmouth waitlisted me.
I got into Rutgers and Montclair State in NJ.

Rutgers is the better school, but I can’t afford it…

Montclair is giving me a full scholarship, so if my waitlisting ends up negative, I’m stuck at an unknown school in suburban jersey 7 minutes from my house. great.

so don’t feel bad. Be satisfied knowing that you applied. I’m happy I did, even with my rejection.

It is funny how i got a $25000 offer from Cal but only $16000 from UCI >.<

I wanted to go to Cornell ILR alot, but oh well. I knew it was a long shot. I’m going to SUNY Binghamton instead.
But I do have one question: What did your rejection letter say? Mine was odd, it said the usual about sorry we don’t have a place, etc. but then it listed all the requirements for transfer and it recmended the usual time frame that people transfer in… Is that usual for ILR rejections?

@c

Yes it begins with “We’re sorry we can’t offer you admission… etc.
The second paragraph states " We would like to make you aware that it is possible to transfer to ILR…” and goes on with freshman course equivalents (what they advise you take for transfer) along with the credit amounts per course, the recomended GPA (3.3 or better) and lastly underlined, most students will be admitted after their second or thrid semester.
It does say that I must formally reapply to ILR if I wish to transfer and “good luck” in whatever I decide.

cornell isnt the only school in the nation. they dont have “magical” books and professors nor do harvard and yale. these are schools that take the highest achieving high school seniors in the nation; but numbers and awards are not always indicative of the caliber of a student. i got waitlisted and im not sour about it at all because i know the quality of education at my others schools is not a step down regardless of what “US news and world report” says. I’ll be going to usc, cal, or tulane next year and I would say the least prestigious(tulane) is probably my first choice. go to the school that you like the best, not the highest ranked one you get into.

Cal isn’t prestigious? Huh?

Cal’s freaking beastly, dude.

I got into Cornell ED, so I will probably go there.

Cornell was my favorite school, no doubt. When I saw it last June, I knew that was where I wanted to live and study for 4 years. ED wasn’t an option because my sister will start grad school this fall, so money is too tight for me to apply to any binding program. My alumni interview went really well, and I was hopeful that a miracle would happen. I was deeply hurt to be rejected. It’s good that I have other choices, and I’m waitlisted at two great schools, so maybe I’ll end up at a place that will be as magical as Cornell was. Hope all of us end up somewhere we like, even if it’s not where we truly wanted to study.

I wasn’t sad at all. Cornell was basically just a “eh, why not try?” school. I was given the guaranteed transfer, but I’m declining. I am actually going to Ithaca College instead, so I’ll be right by Cornell! Lol

I actually think the interviews are not required… I was told that those were solely for information. I think mine said something that really frustrated me: “There were many many more well qualified applicants.” or something along the lines of that. I never finished reading the letter, but man I was upset that day.

I think the information meeting is a complete waste of time. Why advertise to a student when you are going to end up rejecting him?
