Hey guys! I'm a freshman participating in rush next semester. I heard the GPA requirement for sororities is 2.5. Does that include high school GPA? If not, how much does it affect your chances if you're slightly below the requirement? Thanks!

It does not include high school GPA. Once you meet the threshold then it is how much they like you. Have your outfits ready and be positive/open minded. You are participating in rush next Mon. Hope it is not going to be too cold for you guys.

So if you don’t have a 2.5 you don’t have a chance?

You wouldn’t be eligible to rush.

The registration form said I could still rush but my chnaces would be lower. Is that their way of saying I don’t have a chance?

***chances

You probably want to contact some people about this, but the way I am reading it and what my kid is telling me is you need above a 2.5 GPA to be eligible to rush.

Okay, thanks for the info!

I had a friend last year who had below a 2.5. He had to submit a petition and explain his situation. He was allowed to rush. I’m guessing you will have to do the same.

I thought the GPA requirement for guys was 2.25? Also do you know where he got the petition?

I hate to be rude, but shouldn’t you be focusing on academics instead of partying if your GPA is below 2.5?

I’m not joining solely for the partying haha. Also I definitely had some trouble adjusting in the beginning of the semester which unfortunately impacted my grades and regardless of whether or not I make it into a sorority, academics are my first priority. Trust me, I’ve stayed in plenty o’ weekends doing work, it comes with the pre-health track.

Is pre-health the same as pre-med? Never heard of that before.

But yeah, I’ve heard from my friends that the majority of freshmen (60-70%) significantly underperformed their first semester. I guess it’s all relative to what your standards are, but I’m assuming most people would considering doing badly like sub-3.3 or so.

I wish we were like MIT/Hopkins and just pass/failed all first semester classes. I took all upperclassmen classes except for my FWS and had a hard time adjusting. This is going to drag down my GPA long term. /:

I’m Pre-Vet but I was just saying all Pre-Health tracks are tough. Yeah this is probably the worst GPA I’ve ever had but I guess that’s Cornell for yah haha. Yeah most of my classes were upperclassman ones and my freshman writing seminar was rough too I was not aware of the unspoken ‘Don’t take an English FWS’ rule.

My FWS was kind of a joke. I never did any of the assigned readings and wrote everything the night before.

That was pretty much the only class where high school tactics worked. I got BURNED by trying to pull that in notoriously difficult classes. Ugh. Need to manage my time better next semester.

What were your HS stats, if you don’t mind me asking?

I wasn’t in the top 10 but I was in the top 5% and I ended up with around a 96.

You should still be allowed to rush but some houses may not be able to take you because of GPA requirements from nationals. Just rush and see what happens! There is really nothing to lose by just going for it!

Thanks for the info! :)

Have you put your application in? Have you been assigned a Rho Gamma? If so, I believe you could then go through the rush process.

Yup! Just got my rho gamma the other day.
