Everyone else has a thread so why not? Go HumEc, anyone else apply?
Global Health Public Science major here!
@childish20 Nice, Human Dev. for me!
DEA here! Anyone have any insight into the differences in the admissions process for HumEc applicants (ie weight of portfolio, teacher recs, scores, etc.)?
i heard the portfolio is the most important part @AvidDivA
Just found this and got really excited! I’m an HBHS major, go HumEC!
Just found this…I applied for PAM
Did anyone get an email from the HE ambassador and student of color association?
I did! You think it means anything?
I think it might! Last year a few days before the diversity email, they got phone calls from HE ambassadors, maybe this year they just did emails? idk just hypothesizing @childish20
Didn’t get any email. What are HE ambassadors?
@guitar321 HE ambassadors are current HumEc students who reach out to applicants
@CCSenioritis Wait so are these likelies? And is the diversity email limited to URM? Or are Asians/Pacific Islanders too?
if you’re not a URM do you think there’s a chance you’ll get a call? I saw someone posting on an different thread that their kid got a call from HumEc a few days before RD decisions came out last year.
@childish20 @CCSenioritis Do HE ambassadors only reach out to URMs or all HE applicants?
@guitar321 Well I’m not an URM (I’m Asian) so I don’t think they only reach out to URMs
@childish20 What did your email say?
@childish20 It was pretty long, but I’ll paste it here:
Hello Victoria!
I hope this message finds you well! My name is [name redacted] and I am a current senior in the College of Human Ecology here at Cornell University. I am from the island of St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands and I am studying Policy Analysis and Management.
I am writing you tonight also as a member of the Association for Students of Color in the college and here to offer a student perspective on the college and university. Given your interest in Cornell and application to the college, I wanted to touch base to see how everything is going. I remember how stressful this time was senior year. If you have any questions about Cornell, Human Ecology, or my experience, I would love to hear from you!
Human Ecology has really been an incredible fit for me. As a student in Human Ecology, you have access to a small, personable community within all that larger Cornell has to offer. This really enables you to connect with top-notch professors, as well as your fellow students. Because of the size, the advising staff really gets to know you and ensures you have the best possible academic experience.
For students in this college, the academic requirements are so flexible that you can explore almost every area at Cornell University! Being in Human Ecology, I have had the chance to take classes with professors in my department who know me really well, but also take classes in so many other diverse disciplines throughout all of Cornell thanks to the freedom that this college allows its students. For example, while I tend to focus mostly on economics, statistics, and government, I can honestly say that two of my favorite classes have been Human Bonding and Corporations, Shareholders, and Public Policy.
Being a student at Cornell University and specifically in the College of Human Ecology has been a transformative experience for me, so I would really love to serve as resource for you as you embark you college search! Please feel free to contact me at any time via email at [email redacted] or through the Office of Admissions at hum.ec_admissions@cornell.edu with any questions you may have or even just to say hello. I would like to wish you the best of luck in your senior year and as you wait to hear more about your application. I look forward to hearing from you!
And that was it! Did you have the same message pretty much?
Also I meant *not only URMs haha I just caught the missing word
Dear xxx,
I hope you are doing well. My name is xxxxxxx xxxxxxx, and I am a senior in the College of Human Ecology at Cornell University. I am from Teaneck, NJ and I am studying Human Development, with a minor in Inequality Studies.
I am writing you tonight both as a student within the College and the Executive Chair of the Association for Students of Color. I am reaching out to you to offer a student perspective on the college and university. Given your interest in Cornell and your application to the college, I wanted to touch base to see how the application process is going.
I can imagine how stressful this time during your senior year must be. I am sure this is a time when you are trying to determine the right school for you. If you have any questions whatsoever about Cornell, Human Ecology, or my experience, I would love to hear from you!
The College of Human Ecology has offered me a plethora of resources throughout my time on campus. I have gotten the chance to be involved in the Human Ecology Ambassadors Program, the Association for Students of Color, and a peer mentoring program. Each organization has positively impacted my experience. Because of the size of the College, the advising staff and faculty really gets to know you and ensure you have the best possible academic experience.
Additionally, coursework within the college has increased my interest in learning about the ways that people interact with their environments. One thing I have loved is that the college has flexible academic requirements, which has given me enough time to pursue two minors, while still finishing my major requirements in a timely fashion. For example, while I tend to focus mostly on developmental psychology courses, I have also enjoyed courses in Africana Studies and Policy Analysis and Management. My two favorite courses have been ‘Racial and Ethnic Identity Development’ and ‘Human Boding.’
Being a student within the College of Human Ecology has been a transformative experience for me, so I would be happy to serve as a resource for you and share information that I have available during your application process. Please feel free to contact me at this e-mail address if you have any questions. I wish you the best of luck as you hear more about your college applications.
Sincerely,
xxxx
