Cornell Transfers for Fall 2009 - Decisions and Stats.

You guys take these forums too seriously. The fall '09 transfer thread is mostly people BS’ing around while waiting for results…

Anyway
School: ILR
Current College GPA: 3.9
Final HS GPA: 3.9
SAT/ACT/SAT II scores: 2200 (740/760/700), SAT II’s (750,760,760)

I don’t see the point of going into specifics but my recs and ECs were top notch, and interview was decent.

you’re stats are great too!
junior transfer?

im really sorry to write here, as

  1. im not even applying/have applied
  2. we dont post other stats in here
    but:

seriously people, are you idiots ? the people who made this thread made it so it would be EASY to see for people who were interested about stats so that they could size themselves up… stop being so ****ing stupid… if you want to ask someone a question directly, then PM them ??? you guys are ridiculous and if some of you get into cornell, then i feel really sorry for them because they admitted people who are so damn arrogant that they cant just respect some peoples well-meant intentions…

What !!!

Sorry, I can not resist replying to ns89:

You should have used “ignorant” to describe the people posting here without reason(which now includes you and I). I would describe your post as “arrogant”: calling people stupid, belittling them, etc.

You also contributed to the problem by deviating from the original function of this thread…

I give up. I wonder if there will be a correlation between people who post needlessly on here ( CAN NOT FOLLOW DIRECTIONS ) and Cornell rejections. I also wonder if I’m now part of that correlation =P

well then i cant resist replying to zakaqel,

well i did it for a good reason, and i said sorry before i did it even… and yes, i called them idiots because frankly, thats what they were acting like…

whatever, i didnt even apply to there, just gonna stay out of it…

sorry viola, hopefully itll become good now  and i doubt you are :p

Ahhh, this thread was supposed to be a source of reference for future and current applicants; it has turned into a great source of comedy instead…oh well.

We can always make another…and just copy and paste the legitimate content of this one…

I have been observing the no-posting rule this entire tho now I’m ticked (thanks Violaghost, and no the correlation probably won’t apply to you). Maybe we should have a msg at the bottom of our posts so people who jumped to the second page would know.

ELTACOGRANDE is just being a moron. Ignore him.

=======

This is a stat thread only, please try not to post anything other than your stats AFTER you’ve been accepted / rejected, unless you’re telling the idiots to shut up. Then copy this messag to the bottom of your post.

Interview: Nope

Relative strength of essays: I think it’s very strong. It talks about my different cultural backgrounds and how they inspired me to do a research and focus on developmental economics in order to improve the economic situation in third world countries. I also talked how Cornell’s Economics Society will be beneficial to my future researches.

Relative strengths of recommendations: Very strong, I am very close with three of the Prof. who wrote my recommendation. (Heck, they were freaking out when I told them I got rejected lol)

Hooks - applications strengths and weaknesses:
Lived in three different countries (unique cultural background) and I guess good academic performance in college and quite strong extra curriculars. I have also been taking 20+ units per semester. All my midterm grades were As.

Weakness is perhaps my mediocre high school performance.

Any other info/comments: Totally didn’t expect a rejection, but most of my Professors think that Cornell is protecting their yield this year. You’ll never know tho.

Current school & year: Ithaca College, Freshman

HS Extracurriculars: Football, Wrestling, Track, Honor Society Executive Board
Summer jobs/activities: Worked in restaurant industry.

is this through mail or e-mail?

Accepted!
Current school & year: Howard Community College, 3rd semester
Applying to: ILR
Current College GPA: 3.67
Final HS GPA: 3.3 ish?
SAT/ACT/SAT II scores: didn’t report at all but SAT was pretty low

Interview: Yes, did in-person interview with Ian. I think this was one of my strong points. It was nothing like I expected, more down-to-earth. I thought it was much shorter but was really surprised to find out that the interview took about 50mins.

Relative strength of essays (topics, if you are accepted and wish to share particularly strong approaches): I’m not sure if this was a plus or a minus for me because while I believe the idea was ok, I didn’t really think the essay itself was well written in terms of its flow.
The personal essay-about my years off working abroad after graduating from high school and I got to be here. Academic interest essay- again, about my variety of different work experiences I had and how it had influenced me to want to pursue this major (ILR-particularly the human resources).
Relative strengths of recommendations: 2, one from Politics professor and one from English professor. The politics professor really liked me because I was active in class. I don’t think the English professor ever really liked me because I always annoyed/bothered her, going before almost every class to seek help and revise my essay. She once even jokingly called me OCD, but what the heck, she told me that she’d always be delighted to write me recom letter, so I asked her.

College Extracurriculars: Student Senate, Summer abroad volunteering as an English Teacher at Costa Rica
HS Extracurriculars: Model UN club VP (Outstanding delegate award from one of the conferences), Big Brother Big Sister (BBBS) Organization’s Intergenerational program youth leader, BBBS’s special needs program youth leader, made 3D pop-up book to send to cancer children, NHS, etc.
Summer jobs/activities: Worked as an English teacher in Korea for almost 2years, significant tutoring experience (made students top 1% at the National English exam), translated Korean Broadcasting System’s summer children’s science workbook into English, coordinated &supervised a Singapore summer abroad schooling camp at an English Academy I worked at.

Reasons for transfer, as conveyed by the essays: the abroad experience internship program, environment, the specific program
Hooks - applications strengths and weaknesses: I think the definite weakness was my hs record. I’m not sure how the essays played the role in the process. However, I came to realize that interview mattered just as much, because you can really show your personality and who you really are through personal interaction (thus, strongly recommend, in-person interview if possible for all future ILR applicants!)

Any other info/comments: I actually had a F in one of my grades in the 2nd semester of college but everything else was an A (had 33 credits, and a part of school’s HOnors program) so basically that F brought me down from a 4.0 to a 3.67. During the interview I told Ian about how I got the F. I told him honestly that I got the F because I missed the final exam date and I was so exhausted from taking 19 credits and working almost 20 hours/wk on top of acting as a guardian for my family who couldn’t speak English. I also told him that however, this was something that I was responsible for, not anybody else, so I deserved it but I’ve clearly learned my lesson and I’m retaking the course right now (which I have an A on right now). He recommended me to write an explanation letter just like what I’ve told him. I did, and also sent the midterm report, which was also a 4.0

Cr3sc3nt sorry to hear that
i’m gonna apply for CAS next year but i don’t think i have any chances to get in if you’ve rejected with those great stats… sigh*
